GOT $11M? SACRAMENTO RACEWAY FOR SALE

The Agent was surprised to see a listing for Sacramento Raceway being for sale. The quarter-mile drag strip is on a parcel just over 191 acres.

NOSTALGIA FUNNY CARS IN THE BIG SHOW? NOPE

Agent 1320 recently had some calls to inquire why a Nostalgia Funny Car couldn’t enter the Funny Car class. First, there is the five-year body rule that all Nostalgia FC’s fail, and then there is the small matter of no transmission allowed. All Nostalgia Funny Cars that we know of have a transmission, so the Agent says, “No way.”

THREE BIG WINNERS AT ROCKINGHAM’S TOP ET CHALLENGE

Although he came up short of the big money, “Nasty Nick” Hastings of Shelby, Ohio, got the “iron man” award by taking his 1981 Pontiac T1000 to round seven on all three days. His best finish, though, was runner-up to Shawn Carpenter on Saturday.

Rockingham Dragway’s return to big money bracket racing drew a weekend field of almost 350 bracket racers from 20 states but, when the tire smoke cleared Sunday, the bulk of the purse stayed in the host state with Michael Paschal, Shawn Carpenter and Tim Thomas.

Each of those Carolinians took home a $20,000 winner’s check from The Rock’s inaugural Top ET Challenge, its first big money event since track owner Steve Earwood and the late George Howard collaborated on several popular projects including the original Million Dollar Drag Race and the B&M Racers Appreciation Series.

The Top ET Challenge was co-produced by Tony Saraceni and 1320 Race Promotions. Racers earned more than $150,000 over the three days. In addition to the $20,000 paid to each day’s big winner, each runner-up earned $5,000 and the semifinal losers $1,500.

SAN ANTONIO HOSTS CHASE SUPER SUMMIT SERIES ON SATURDAY

A few photos were in the old mayo jar high atop the Phlegm Building’s second story penthouse porch today. Here’s a look at the new DMPE-backed ’69 Chevelle built by Andy McCoy Race Cars for Chris Russo.

YOU’LL FLIP FOR THIS VIDEO

Well, it’s not drag racing, but it certainly is worth seeing. In front of a sold-out crowd at Sam Boyd Stadium Saturday night, VP Racing Fuels’ Mad Scientist® driven by Lee O'Donnell made history by pulling off the first-ever front flip in a Monster Jam® monster truck. The stunt propelled O’Donnell to the 2017 Monster Jam World Finals® Freestyle Championship, the first for both O'Donnell and the Mad Scientist Monster Jam® truck.

O’Donnell’s unexpected move began with pulling a high-speed wheelie after a jump. He then hit another jump while his front wheels were up in the air, causing the back end of his truck to launch up, eventually somersaulting over the front end of his truck.

CLUB DAY DRAGS HELD AT TUCSON

One of the weekend’s biggest winners was the unlikely turbocharged ’71 Thunderbird driven by lady racer Kim Zimmerman of Phoenix. She clicked off six rounds for the win over Ray Bondy also from the Arizona capital, who fouled. Kim’s winning time was 9.78 at 135.84 mph.

Tucson Dragway’s unique concept of holding a ‘club day’ periodically has blossomed into great competition among the several groups that use the idea to stage their planned races without the requirement of renting the track to do so. Under the direction of owner Jim Hughes and track manager Matt DeYoung, Tucson Dragway hosted the ADRA (Arizona Drag Racers Association), the Stock/Super Stock Combo group, and local Super Comp racers, on March 25-26.

Ya just gotta love the name and graphics!

MUSI RESETS PDRA NITROUS SPEED RECORD

Lizzy Musi had held the Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous presented by MoTeC National MPH Record since May of last season. And, after a wildly successful winter season overseas, she was ready to do it again.

Musi won two of the six races in the Arabian Drag Racing League series over the winter, becoming the first woman to win a Pro Nitrous event there. Her first event back on American soil, the team took the car straight off the plane to the Mad Mule event at GALOT Motorsports Park. What happened next shocked them all, as she and “King Kong” went a 3.66. The Musi Racing Engines performance continued throughout the event and earned her the win.

From there the Musi team headed to the PDRA season opener, expecting big things. They were not disappointed. She qualified second with a 3.70 effort, but the real magic happened in eliminations. In round one she laid down a 3.74 at an astounding 205.07 mph. She backed up that number in round two, going 3.68 at 204.91, taking out teammate and reigning World Champion, Tommy Franklin. She reached her top speed of the day in the semi-finals at 205.41, and then went on to runner up to Jay Cox in the finals, confirming a solid start to her season.
