Agent 1320 recently had some calls to inquire why a Nostalgia Funny Car couldn’t enter the Funny Car class. First, there is the five-year body rule that all Nostalgia FC’s fail, and then there is the small matter of no transmission allowed. All Nostalgia Funny Cars that we know of have a transmission, so the Agent says, “No way.” [03/27/17]

Rockingham Dragway’s return to big money bracket racing drew a weekend field of almost 350 bracket racers from 20 states but, when the tire smoke cleared Sunday, the bulk of the purse stayed in the host state with Michael Paschal, Shawn Carpenter and Tim Thomas.

Each of those Carolinians took home a $20,000 winner’s check from The Rock’s inaugural Top ET Challenge, its first big money event since track owner Steve Earwood and the late George Howard collaborated on several popular projects including the original Million Dollar Drag Race and the B&M Racers Appreciation Series.

The Top ET Challenge was co-produced by Tony Saraceni and 1320 Race Promotions. Racers earned more than $150,000 over the three days. In addition to the $20,000 paid to each day’s big winner, each runner-up earned $5,000 and the semifinal losers $1,500.

Texas racing was on full display as local racers Clark Smiley and Joel Covington celebrated with their teams in the winner’s circle following their final round wins at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, South Central Division, Texas Sportsman Challenge at Royal Purple Raceway.

Smiley, Denver City, Texas, ceded the starting line advantage to Ray Goodman, Boerne, in the Comp Eliminator final round. However, Smiley was able to pull out the win, registering a victory pass of 7.343 seconds, 183.72 mph while Goodman runner-upped at 7.435 seconds, 179.06 mph.

Fans in attendance were treated to an all Texas battle in the Super Stock final round. Joel Covington, Center, earned his third Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Wally and his first in Super Stock, as Korey Mawhee, Frisco, fouled at the starting line.

Brian Heath of Fort Worth, defeated Cole Prejean, St. Armant, La., in the Top Sportsman final round. Heath ran 7.102, 193.54, outpacing Prejean’s 7.340, 177.46. Mallori Rodgers, McAlester, Okla., gained the starting line advantage and never looked back as she ran 6.417, 211.76 to outlast Mark Jones, Marrero, La., in the Top Dragster final round.
