Chevrolet Performance Challenge

At first, it seemed like the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series at the 16th Annual Quick Fuel Technology NMCA Bluegrass Nationals Presented by Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center may not get run to completion due to the extreme amount of rain, but Sunday’s weather was a sunny surprise and the race went off without a hitch on May 21.

Winners were: Glenn Pushis (Stock); George Farkouh (Real Street); Kurt Anderson (Street King); and Nicholas Massengale (Proform Rumble).

The final elimination run in Drag Radial was postponed until the NMCA All-American Muscle Car Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, and will pit Anthony Manna against Andy Essary.

The NMCA Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series heads to Norwalk, OH on August 24-27 for the 16th Annual Honeywell Garrett NMCA All-American Nationals Featuring the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series at Summit Motorsports Park.

Pritchett honors ‘Demon’ with special dragster at Epping and E-town

Leah Pritchett will be driving a Mopar HEMI®-powered Demon this weekend in the NHRA New England Nationals, but it won't one of the coveted 840-horsepower, 21st century muscle cars that are the fastest-ever production vehicles in a quarter-mile.

For the next two weeks, she'll be in an 11,000-horsepower "Demon" when she joins with Pennzoil to salute the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon that will be available to the public later this year.

Pritchett's dragster will carry a special "Demon" paint scheme in the June 2-4 NHRA New England Nationals and the following week at Englishtown, N.J., for the Summernationals. Pritchett's firesuit and crew shirts will also sport Demon branding.

The limited-production 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is the first-ever production car to do a front-wheel lift, as certified by Guinness World Records, and it's the world's fastest quarter-mile production car with an elapsed time (ET) of 9.65 seconds at 140 miles per hour (mph), as certified by NHRA. It also registers the highest g-force (1.8 g) ever recorded at launch in a production car.

Pritchett was involved in testing the Demon and added her 330-mph touch to its development before the Demon was introduced in April at the New York International Auto Show.

"My role in development of the Demon started at the Englishtown track last year and it will be very cool to see it come full circle when I drive my 330-mph Demon Top Fueler this weekend at Epping and then take it to Englishtown," she said.

Is Dodge sandbagging the Demon numbers?

Richard Kratz, editor of our sister publication, Mopar Max, has taken a hard look at the numbers released for the Dodge Challenger Demon, and has a few questions.

ADRL adds second Nitro Harley class

The American Drag Racing League’s VP of Technical Operations, Rick Moore, has been working with Matt Smith, Janette Thornley and several others to bring the Nitro Pro Fuel Harley (NPF) class to the ADRL for 2017 and beyond.

The class will start at the Summer Drags, June 30-July 1 in Martin, MI, at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park.

“This is a perfect fit for the ADRL,” states Vito Micciolo, VP of Business Operations. “After witnessing the fan excitement and support for the Top Fuel Harley’s at their Inaugural event at the Spring Drags at Rockingham Dragway this past April, it was an easy decision to add the Nitro Pro Fuel Harley class to compliment the Top Fuel Harley Class moving forward.

“We feel support for the class by not only the fans, but the racers themselves will be tremendous and the Two Harley classes add great fire breathing action and entertainment for the fans.”

Fricke family wins big at Maple Grove

The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series hit the Northeast division for the second time of 2017. Racers from all over the nation visited the drag strip to compete on Memorial Day Weekend. Husband and wife Shawn and Jackie Fricke, led the winners circle at Maple Grove Raceway Sunday, along with their nephew, Cory Ream.

Top Alcohol Dragster champion Jackie Fricke worked her way through the field, facing off against Richard Bourke in all New Jersey TAD final round. Fricke of Flemington, didn’t have too much trouble returning to winner’s circle as Bourke of Tappan tripped the red light at the starting line. Jackie Fricke recorded a victory pass of 5.284 seconds, 277.66 mph.

The Frickes finished up nicely on Sunday. Shawn didn’t face much resistance from William Phillips, Monroe Township, NJ, in the Super Street final round. Williams punched the throttle too soon, signaling the red light and giving Fricke the easy win. Fricke finished at 10.952 seconds, 123.08 mph.

The Top Alcohol Funny Car final round featured an east versus west coast battle. Sean Bellemeur, Placentia, Calif., ran 5.470 seconds, 267.91 mph edging out Northeast TAFC standout Phil Burkart, Yorkville, N.Y., who runner upped at 5.553 seconds, 267.06 mph.
