RJ Simrock, driving his wheelstanding ’72 Nova, went to the winner’s circle of the Lucas Oil Products Pro class on Saturday, picking up a check for $4500 after defeating former West Coast Classic champion Tommy Dutcher in the final round. Dutcher beat Mark Kirby in the semifinal and Simrock advanced past Ryan Smith.

Mark Kidd (far lane) of Twin Falls, Idaho, capped the final day of the Memorial Day weekend event with a $5,000 win in the Racepak Super Pro class, clicking a .003 light in the final coupled with a 7.62, 174.32 (7.60 dial-in) with his dragster, to defeat the ’03 Corvette of Henderson, Nevada’s Chris Naffziger. Naffziger defeated Kyle Seipel in the semifinal while Kidd had a bye into the final.

Justin Lamb drove his Chevy Cobalt Super Stocker to a final round win over Ryan Houmard’s ’64 Nova, with Lamb getting the win with an 8.773 and .008 light (8.77 dial). Houmard defeated Chuck McCarty in their semifinal match, and Lamb went to the final when Juan Moreno of Bernalillo, New Mexico, red-lighted in their semifinal race.

 

The third annual Figspeed West Coast Classic was another success, with over $125,000 in cash awards being offered and more than $20,000 in special prizes and awards distributed over the weekend. Major sponsors for the 3rd Annual Figspeed West Coast Classic included: Figspeed Speed Shop, Lucas Oil Products, Racepak, Silver State Commercial Refrigeration and Meziere Enterprises.

Val Torres Jr. and Stephanie Paz earned shootout victories at the 3rd Annual 2017 Figspeed West Coast Classic at Auto Club Dragway held May 26-28. Torres took home the events biggest prize, a $15,000 check from Silver State Commercial Refrigeration for winning the Saturday night 64-Super Pro Shootout. Stephanie Paz was the winner of the Meziere Pro-64 Shootout, collecting a check for $10,000 from Meziere Enterprises.

The Silver State Super Pro Shootout semifinals had Torres defeating David Myhre, and Ryan Herem edged Seth Polvadore. In the final, Herem’s .005 red-light ended his day, while Torres cut a .002 light and ran 4.607, 144.80 on a 4.59 dial.

 

Joe Kidd Jr. of Marana, Ariz., setup a potential father-son final round in the Meziere Pro Shootout when he defeated the all-new COPO Camaro of Justin Lamb, but that chance was negated when Joe Kidd lost to Stephanie Paz. Paz, driving a ’68 Nova out of Cloverdale, Calif., got the final round win as Kidd, Jr., red-lighted.

 

Fresh off a Super Street win at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event the previous weekend, Trey Vetter of Henderson, Nevada, opened the Figspeed West Coast Classic weekend by winning the $3,000 Lucas Oil Pro race. Vetter’s ’77 Nova beat Tom Patten’s ’67 Nova in the final. Justin Lamb and Chris Vels were semifinalists.

 

Friday’s Racepak $10,000 Super Pro winner was Robert Naber, as he defeated Kevin McClelland in the final. Blu Hayball of Fort Hall, Idaho was a semifinalist.

 

Ryan McClanahan drove his ’17 Racetech dragster to a $10,000 win during Saturday’s Racepak Super Pro race, defeating Chris Northrup of Bosie, Idaho in the final round. Kevin McClelland and Parker Theobald were semifinalists.
