In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Mustang Cobra Jet, Ford Performance last week unveiled their new limited production, drag racing special Cobra Jet at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit. Ford described it as the fastest production Mustang on the drag strip, capable of quarter-mile times in the mid-eight-second range trapping at 150 mph. Fueling this hot new machine down the track is Aeromotive’s Pro Series Fuel pump.
While horsepower figures have not been released yet, prevailing thought is that it will be substantial considering it comes with a bored-out 5.2-liter version of Ford’s Coyote V-8 and a 3.0 liter Whipple supercharger. Additional features include a nine-inch solid rear axle, height-adjustable coilovers, an NHRA-certified roll cage and FI-certified racing seats.
Only 68 of the commemorative Cobra Jets will be built with a choice of two color options: Race Red or Oxford White. The price is set at $130,000. [08/21/18]
And speaking of Cobra Jets, there will be almost 200 of the cars participating in the 50th Anniversary Cobra Jet Reunion during the NMCA All-American Nationals. The event will be held this weekend (Aug. 23-26) at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH.
Over 80 cars (not all Cobra Jets) will be taking part in the drag racing which will include Nostalgia Super Stock, Nostalgia Muscle Car, Open Comp, Stock/Super Stock, Heavy Street, Dodge/Mopar HEMI Shootout, Chevrolet Performance Street Car Challenge, FAST (Factory Appearing Stock Tire), and True Street categories. [08/21/18]
Australia’s Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars will visit the new Swan Hill Dragway facility as part of the tour’s 2018 calendar.
The first round of the 2018-2019 season was successfully completed at Springmount Raceway on Aug. 4. Other dates are Oct. 27 (Willowbank Raceway), Jan. 5, 2019 (Perth Motorplex) and March 2, 2019 (Swan Hill Raceway).
“We love taking a full field of nitro funny cars or hot rods to regional venues,” said Morice McMillin, series manager. “It’s something that those markets don’t normally get to see and they are so appreciative of the show coming to town.” [08/21/18]
Sydney Dragway will celebrate its 15th anniversary throughout the entire 2019 season. In the lead-up to the Summer Thunder in January 2019, the Australian track will be counting down the 15 Greatest Moments as voted by the fans.
Fans and racers also will be able to purchase a paver engraved with their name in the new 15th Anniversary Garden, to be located left of the top of staging lanes. The garden will feature a Walk of Fame documenting some of the history of the venue as well as the ANFA Pioneer and Legends Awards area. [08/21/18]

Summit Racing Wheelie Bars
Keep that wheelstanding under control with a set of Summit Racing Wheelie Bars. The bolt-on bars prevent the rear tires from unloading at launch for maximum traction, and feature an unpsrung stainless steel upper strut for maximum strength and triangulation, a flat 6061-T6 aluminum lower bar for fatigue resistance, and natural rubber wheels with aluminum Delrin hubs. All necessary mounting hardware for a quick and easy installation is included, and you can set wheel clearance before you lock the bars to the rear axle housing -- no welding required. The 44-inch long bars are available in natural and nickel-plated finishes. [08/21/18]
