“Leah has been a great DSR teammate and now she is going to strengthen our Army Racing lineup overall,” said Schumacher, who finished eighth in the final standings this season. “She and that team proved their speed right out of the box and she showed up at the track each weekend as one of the cars to beat. Off the track, she brings great marketing capabilities as one of the more colorful spokespeople in this sport. It’s a win-win for everybody involved.” [01/30/18]

Scott Gaulter’s “Nitro Madness” altered.
The 13th annual World Fuel Altered Nationals (WFAN) at Eddyville Raceway Park (Iowa) is moving to an outlaw format beginning in 2018 by welcoming Nitro Nostalgia Funny Cars to the mix.
The event scheduled for Au. 17-18 will see some changes to the class structure. The event will include three 8 car fields with a total purse of more than $30,000 plus bonuses. A $500 bonus is being posted for any altered or funny car running at least 85% nitro to qualify in the quickest field (A) or a $250 bonus should they qualify in one of the other fields. Another $250 bonus is being posted for each “A” field qualifier who made competitive runs in each of the two qualifying sessions.

The NHRA has added the Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park in Richmond, VA, to the championship tour on June 8-10. This event brings the number of 2018 national events back to 24. Virginia Motorsports Park (VMP) was one of several tracks vying to host an NHRA event after an opening created by the cancellation of the event in Englishtown, NJ.
The last NHRA national event VMP hosted was in 2009. Track owner Tommy Franklin and family recently purchased the track and jumped at the opportunity to reclaim an NHRA national event. The Franklins along with VMP general manager Allen Carpenter and his team will be busy preparing the track and facility including a complete refurbishment of the track surface.
This event will make a very busy month of June for the VMP staff as the XDA will be at the track June 22-24 followed by the PDRA on June 28-30. [01/30/18]
John Force Racing will be heading into the 2018 season with a solid crew chief line-up consisting of familiar faces and significant changes in the Top Fuel and Funny Car ranks.
The world championship Monster Energy Top Fuel dragster driven by Brittany Force will once again be headed by Brian Husen with Ronnie Thompson coming on as assistant crew chief. Veteran tuner Alan Johnson will return as Top Fuel consultant on the team that reached six final rounds with four event wins and set the national speed record in 2017.
Robert Hight’s 2017 world championship tandem of Jimmy Prock as crew chief and Chris Cunningham as assistant will continue to tune the Auto Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car. The pair won four races and reached seven final rounds in addition to setting both the speed and elapsed time national records.
John Force Racing has added Brian Corradi to join Dan Hood as co-crew chief of Courtney Force’s Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car for the 2018 season. Corradi has three NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel world championships but is eager to get back to his Funny Car roots and rejoin former teammate Hood.
John Force’s PEAK Antifreeze & Coolant Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car will be managed by co-crew chiefs Jon Schaffer and Jason McCulloch. [01/30/18]
Jeremy Wagler, owner of Wagler Competition Products, jumped at the opportunity to convert Lyons Raceway Park into a private motorsports testing facility. Built in 1996, the current facility is in excellent shape and was the NHRA North Central Division track of the year in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Wagler plans to expand upon the existing eighth-mile drag strip by adding a sled-pulling track and a professional dyno-tuning facility, Critical Calibration, Inc.
Due to the unique location, CCi is set to become a premier tuning company where initial dyno results can be tested in a real-world, off-road environment on the drag strip or pulling track. CCi will also become the headquarters of Critical Mass Motorsports (CMM), the Wagler/EZ LYNK partnership that campaigns the wild, screw-blown, diesel-powered Pro Mod 1937 Chevy known as the “Screwed Coupe.”
Vincennes University College of Technology
These events are on the 2018 schedule and will be open to the public:
May 18-20: Team 260 Neglection No Prep
June 8-9: Wagler Diesel Competition
June 14-17: No Box Nationals
July 28: Southeast Gassers Association
The facility is available to rent by contacting track@waglercompetition.com. [01/30/18]
In addition, WIX Filters will grow their hospitality presence with Kalitta Motorsports in 2018 with five major activations across NHRA’s extensive reach throughout the country.
“We knew we found a great fit with Kalitta, but we didn’t realize how great this partnership would turn out,” said Jennifer Gibson, brand manager for WIX. “From races ending in the Winner’s Circle to support behind the scenes, last year proved to be extremely successful. We couldn’t be more excited to continue our partnership with the entire Kalitta team.” [01/30/18]
Special race classes highlight the action-packed weekend. The Terminator/GT500 Shootout features some of the fastest SVT-produced Ford Mustangs on the planet going heads-up. Hellion Power Systems presents the Turbo Coyote Shootout category with 7- and 8-second turbocharged late-model Mustangs.
A growing group of street-legal Mustangs live on the fringe of reality and NMRA gives them a home in Outlaw True Street. Once again, ididit pays big money to bring the quickest Ford street racers on the planet to participate in the ultimate Spring Break battle royale. UPR Products is hosting a class appropriately called King of the Hill where the quickest Terminator/GT500 racers square off against the Turbo Coyote Shootout’s biggest players for bragging rights and bonus money. Presented by Watson Racing, Ford Performance provides the return of the "Snake Pit,” a special class exclusively designed to showcase the Cobra Jets.
For gear bangers, TREMEC will be hosting the famous Stick Shift Shootout for True Street racers to determine who has the fastest manually shifted street Mustang in the U.S. Finally, the fastest 16 cars from Saturday’s QA1 True Street field (usually 120+ cars) will race heads-up on Sunday in the renowned Spring Break Shootout class, presented by JLT Performance. Holley EFI Coyote Ti-VCT Control Modules
Holley EFI Coyote Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing Control Modules turn loose the full power potential of high-revving 2011-14 Ford Coyote engines. They're compatible with both Holley HP and Dominator EFI systems, ridiculously easy to hook up, and give Coyote engines more than 90 additional foot-pounds of torque right out of the box. The main harnesses are terminated with ford TPS and IAC connectors that make it easy to convert from a drive-by-wire throttle body to a manual throttle body, and four built-in diagnostic LEDs make troubleshooting a snap if there's a cam- or crank-sensor failure. Holley EFI Plug and Play Coyote Ti-VCT Control Module main harnesses include a power tap connector and grounds for adding additional sensors or actuators and CAN bus communication for the Holley EFI ECU for high speed data transfer and diagnostics. Also available are a plug-and-play main harness for 2011-14 Coyote engines with stock cam shafts and stock coils and a plug-and-play main harness for stock cams and Holley EFI coils. If an external map sensor is required, use the available 2-bar MAP sensor. [01/30/18]
