Jim Dunn Racing with driver WHO will be bringing out a new version of the white and black Moon Equipped Funny Car during the NHRA Lucas Oil Winternationals presented by Protect the Harvest this weekend at Auto Club Raceway on the Pomona Fairplex grounds.

The team has several new sponsor partners including Minties Pet Treats, Grenades Gum, and KGC Construction. Goodguys raise cutoff year to 1987

As the years pass, the minimum date for vintage cars needs to change also. Beginning this year the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association have announced they will open their gates to show cars from 1987 and earlier.

We applaud this move and think all nostalgia sanctioning bodies should follow. After all, one of these days the Agent’s 1996 Dodge Caravan will be vintage. (Hey, it’s a classic!)

Lamb ready for new season after ‘learning curve’ with COPO Camaro

Lamb’s COPO Camaro.

Lamb’s Super Stock Cobalt.

Justin Lamb of Hendersonville, NV, opens defense of his two Sportsman titles this weekend at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, CA. Last year he won his second Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Stock Eliminator championship, driving a 2017 Chevrolet COPO Camaro, and he also secured his second Super Stock title in a Chevrolet Cobalt.

“There was a learning curve with the COPO Camaro for me after driving my ’70 Camaro (early in the ’17 Stock Eliminator season),” said Lamb, who also won the 2013 Stock title and the 2015 Super Stock championship. “I just wanted to figure it out, learn the fuel injection, the set-up of the car because it’s so different from a ’70 Camaro. It has so much more power. The learning curve was much quicker than we expected, which says a lot about the COPO. We had a lot of success early and started compiling points that led us to the championship.”

Fans also will have the opportunity to tour the Chevrolet Racing Tour display at the track. The expansive display will feature production vehicles such as the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox Premier, the 2018 Camaro Coupe SS, the Silverado 2500 HD High Country, and the Corvette Grand Sport.

Ferre continues as Ahten dragster driver

Johnny Ahten talks it over with Cameron Ferre, driver of the Racepak-sponsored dragster.

Ahten Racing will kick off their 2018 campaign this weekend at the season-opening NHRA Lucas Oil Winternationals with Cameron Ferre back at the wheel of the “Stump Puller” Top Alcohol Dragster for the third event with the team.

"Getting to race with the Ahten team at the last few races in 2017 was such a great time and experience. I'm very grateful for them asking me back to pilot the car at this weekend's opener,” Ferre said. “They have worked extremely hard over the winter making some great changes to the car making sure we have the best shot to be a serious contender this weekend. I can't wait to step on the gas for the first time in 2018, and it couldn't be with a better bunch of guys."
