Steve Plueger passes away

Famed chassis builder and tuner Steve Plueger passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 22, at age 73.

Plueger has a 40-plus year history in drag racing beginning early in the career of John Force with Plueger building the chassis for many of his Funny Cars. Racers benefiting from Plueger’s expertise include Jeff Arend, Leah Pritchett, Ron Capps, Jon Capps and John Hale, among others. He had been involved most recently with the nostalgia Funny Cars, again providing chassis and tuning.

His own Plueger & Gyger Mustang ran on the NHRA Heritage circuit seen here with Leah (Pruett) Pritchett driving.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. Our condolences to his family and friends.

Trucking company signs as title sponsor for Bristol national event

Fitzgerald USA, a national leader in the trucking industry, has signed a multi-year agreement to become the entitlement sponsor for the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals it was announced today by Bristol Dragway officials.

The 18th annual Fitzgerald USA NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals is set for Father’s Day weekend, June 15-17.

“It’s an exciting notion to come back to a sport that I was very passionate about so many years ago,” said Tommy Fitzgerald, Sr., Fitzgerald USA president. “Most people know us as the guys who rebuild quality reliable diesel engines, but very few know that my brother Ricky and I originally got our start in building engines for our own drag cars. I feel honored, privileged, and humbled that our team has come so far and can finally put our name to such a prestigious NHRA National Event.”

The Bristol Dragway event sponsorship increases Fitzgerald USA’s involvement with Bristol Motor Speedway & Dragway, as the company also sponsors the Fitzgerald Glider Kits 300 NASCAR XFINITY Series race each April held in conjunction with the Food City 500 weekend. The Byrdstown, Tennessee-based company also presents its popular Fitzgerald Peterbuilt Truck Show at Bristol Dragway in early May. The event puts the spotlight on some of the most beautiful and sophisticated big rig semi-trucks from around the world.

Race Part Solutions’ Dual Seal Connectors

Race Part Solutions have created their own version of the Wiggins-style clamp for boosted applications, Race Part Solutions’ Dual Seal Connectors. These high quality, American-made connectors cover a wide range of tubing diameters from 2.5 inches to 5 inches. Race Part Solutions’ Dual Seal Connectors combine the best features of hoses and V-bands to deliver a flexible connection that can withstand extreme boost pressure, thanks to the innovative dual seal design. Each weld flange has an O-ring on the outside that seals against the inside of an aluminum sleeve, and all three parts are held in place by the black-anodized locking clamp. Additionally, the center sleeve allows each flange to move independently while maintaining a tight seal that gets even better when the flanges expand under high pressure.
