Ezell gets Thursday win at Spring Fling Million

At Thursday’s K&N Filters Spring Fling Million at Las Vegas, ten rounds of racing, 586 entries and some 13 hours of competition came down to two tough finalists: Johnny Ezell and Trevor Larson.

By virtue of his dial-in, Ezell left the line first with an .010 light and never looked back, running a 4.754 on a 4.74 for an .008-second advantage at the finish line over Larson.

For the fourth year a Pro38 footbrake class was added to the line-up in the Spring Fling Million. The select group of footbrake racers race each other until a winner is crowned, after which that person advances to the sixth round of the Super Pro class in addition to receiving a $500 bonus over and above whatever round money they earned.

Wednesday night’s Pro38 winner was two-time NHRA Stock Eliminator champ Brad Burton who advanced to the quarterfinal round against a sea of delay box racers. Thursday’s Pro38 winner was many-time big money race winner “Nasty Nick” Hastings who dispatched another heavy hitter in Ryan Mangus with a .019 package for the win.

Isley ‘doubles up’ at NHDRO meet at Gainesville

Chad Isley put BOTH of his entries into the MPS Pro ET final of NHDRO’s “Welcome to the Swamp” season opener at Gainesville Raceway on April 12-14. See who else made the winner’s circle at here.

NHDRO now heads north to their next race on May 17 at Dragway 41 in Morocco, Indiana.

By the Numbers: NHRA SpringNationals on FOX

The Agent is happy to report that showing NHRA drag racing on the big FOX network brings bigger numbers than on FS1.

Viewership for the Houston SpringNationals was 902,000 with a rating of .60.  By comparison, the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup race also on FOX had 2,787,000 viewers and a 1.73 rating while the leading sports broadcast was the NCAA Basketball championship between Texas Tech and Virginia with 19,630,000 viewers and an 11.59 rating.

Off the Track: Drag racers meet with lawmakers in DC

Representatives from the National Motorsports Coalition met with Members of Congress to highlight the impact of motorsports throughout the U.S. and to encourage support for the Motorsports Fairness and Permanency Act.

NHRA drag racers Steve Torrence and Clay Millican joined NHRA vice president of track management & operations, Kasey Coler in Washington D.C. last week to meet with congressional offices representing racing communities all around the country. As part of the National Motorsports Coalition, Torrence, Millican and Coler urged congress to take action to ensure the motorsports industry has the tax certainty it needs to continue making long-term investments in their facilities.

Several drivers joined the National Motorsports Coalition in visiting with a group of nearly 200 Congressional members and their staff, including: Trent Hindman (IMSA); Mario Andretti (IndyCar); Kyle Busch, Austin Cindric, Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano (NASCAR); and Tracey Gardiner and Samantha Tan (USAC). Guests heard remarks from ACCUS President George Silbermann and Representatives Mike Thompson, Bill Posey and Richard Hudson. Other special guests included representation from Speedway Motorsports, Inc., and Iowa Speedway.

With motorsports having a presence in nearly every state across the country, Representatives Bill Posey and Mike Thompson recently launched the Congressional Motorsports Caucus (CMC), whose members include more than 50 members of Congress. CMC, with The National Motorsports Coalition, will continue to work closely with industry stakeholders and Congressional leaders to advocate for issues in the best interests of the motorsports industry.
