Give the people what they want to see and they will come…

JJ da Boss gives an arm drop start to his wife, Tricia (far lane), and Dennis Bailey in the Big Tire final as the Memphis Street Outlaws brought their act to Sage Raceway in Idaho.

How can you draw a crowd to an eighth-mile track in the middle of an Idaho wheat field? Brian Losness tells us how that happened in this Feature.

Beech Bend hosts SPORTSnational Open this weekend

The fourth event of the JEGS Super Quick Series will be held Saturday, May 25, at Kentucky’s Beech Bend Raceway Park as part of the NHRA SPORTSnational Open held May 24-26.

Qualifying points earned at each of the seven JEGS Super Quick Series events leading up to the Firecracker Performance Quick Shootout will determine the eight-car field contested at the Fall Classic NHRA National Open at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, IN, from October 12-13. Currently, the top eight drivers are Jay Oakley, Darren Douglass, Christopher Mullins, Josh Luedke, George Atchison, Dean McIlvain, Tony Prangler and Dave Schutte.

The top five in JEGS Super Quick points after the three races in April are Jay Oakley, James Monroe, Tony Atchison (shown), Josh Luedke and Mike Eggleston. Interestingly enough every driver in the JEGS Super Quick series, that has run all three events, has unfortunately not qualified for a race or has gone out in first round at least once already this season. That is all except for Atchison, who has bowed out in the second, third and fourth rounds, but is looking for a win this weekend.

By the Numbers: NHRA viewership

The FS1 airing of the NHRA Virginia Nationals eliminations on Sunday, May 19, had a viewership of 310,000 with a 0.19 rating.

British Drag Racing HOF donates patient monitor to Santa Pod

The trustees of the British Drag Racing Hall of Fame Benevolent Fund have made the donation of a patient monitoring device to Santa Pod Raceway. The G3H Portable Patient Monitor is battery powered and can easily be carried around. It is suitable for use in bedside monitoring in medical centers or hospitals and can print out graphs of patient readings.

Stuart Bradbury, Chair of the British Drag Racing Hall of Fame and Trustee of the BDRHOF Benevolent Fund, said, “This donation will be directly for the benefit of racers and of fans at Santa Pod Raceway and we hope it can help save lives at the track.”

There will be a starting line presentation to mark the donation at lunchtime on Saturday, May 25, at the Main Event, conditions permitting.

The BDRHOF Benevolent Fund was established and registered with the Charities Commission to create a professional fund-raising platform to support injured racers and officials. The Fund’s aim is to provide financial assistance to deserving individuals to aid their recovery from misfortune. Donations will also support the Air Ambulance Services that cover the permanent UK Drag Racing tracks. On several occasions already, Air Ambulances have provided emergency airlifts carrying injured racers to hospital.

A bank account has been set up and a BT MyDonate internet fundraising page is live at mydonate.bt.com/charities/bdrhofbenevolentfund

Kepner victim of ‘fake news’?

We ran the NMRA results from St. Louis that were provided by the organization, but Bret Kepner says that in fact in total he won two final rounds and had a semifinal finish during the event.

That’ll teach the Agent for missing the event in person.
