XDA Has Record Season

It was only a few weeks ago that the XDA motorcycle drag racing sanction, out of Maryland International Raceway in Budds Creek, MD, closed out their year in spectacular fashion with a Grand Finale at the DME Fall Nationals. The Battle Royal of the Orient Express Pro Street bikes delivered not only a stout 32 bike qualified field, but world record performances, as racers duked it out for a $10,000 pay out.

During qualifying on Friday, Jeremey Teasley, racing out of the DME stables laid down a stunning, 6.407 @ 230.65 MPH with a no-bars, 1,000cc motorcycle to lead the way. Then on Saturday, Jeremy bettered the mark with a jaw dropping 6.384 @ 228.27 MPH that had everyone shaking their heads. 6.30’s at 230MPH, from a highly modified street bike with a DOT street tire!

While many XDA racers achieved personal best numbers on the weekend, the best was saved for last as Jeremy Teasley faced off against Richard Gadson in the final round and a 10K pay day. Teasley was a bit late on the tree with a .114 RT to Gadson’s .082 and it was game-on, right from the launch! A turbo-liter bike Vs Big Block old school nitrous-Suzuki is always a great match up. At the finish line, fans were stunned to see identical elapsed times by both racers: 6.403 to 6.403! The reaction times at the launch spelled the difference in the win achieved by the Gadson/Mummert team. The fact that this provided an additional $10,000 dollars cash for the ride home was just sweet icing on the cake.

The win was a fitting capstone for driver Richard Gadson and bike builder/tuner Brad Mummert. This was their last race together as Mummert is retiring from competition and his famous GS1100E Suzuki is headed for glory – yet to be determined. As for the final round of racing at XDA for Jeremy Teasley: He was three points ahead of Rodney Williford racing coming into this last race of the XDA season and by outlasting Rodney and going rounds, Jeremy, along with his DME teammates reeled in the 2019 Orient Express Pro Street championship.

MPS Pro ET champion – Mike Schulz, and Brock’s Performance Street ET champion – Dustin Lee.

On September 27-29, at Darlington Dragway, the Man Cup motorcycle drag racing sanction rolled into town for the Rob Bush Motorsports, 190-Hookup Nationals. Racers braved 90-degree temps that felt like triple digits for the third race of the five-event Man Cup 2019 motorcycle drag racing series.

Despite track temps well above normal, Rhett Gardner, the General Manager, kept the track in hard-hooking condition all weekend. Crew chiefs of the various teams all agreed and the traction meters did not lie, the racing surface was right there throughout the event.

Paul Gast

In the lone round of Pingel Top Fuel motorcycle drag racing, Larry McBride laid down an impressive 3.76 with a thundering 210.18 MPH in the eighth-mile to defeat Dave Vantine’s 3.80 @ 201 MPH effort. Likewise, veteran Paul Gast displayed a stellar 4.00 elapsed time to defeat Mike Chongris (4.30) in winning Falicon Pro Mod. The next race for Man Cup will be October 26-27, at Rockingham Dragway. Their final event for the year is slated for November 21-24 at SGMP for the World Finals.

In closing, it saddens me greatly to report that on, September 15, 2019, Kevin Williams of Illinois was fatally injured while motorcycle racing. He was testing a drag bike at Muncie Dragway, in Albany, Indiana. Something went horribly wrong and Kevin crashed into the guard rails and succumbed to his injuries.

Kevin was a long-time employee of Schnitz Racing, working primarily as a machinist, but wore many hats during his sixteen years, helping out with whatever needed attending. He was a long-time drag bike racer and a supporting member of Man Cup, helping out with Tech, when time permitted. He will be missed by many.
