Singleton takes Funny Car Chaos championship

Ken Singleton was the winner of the A field at the season-ending Funny Car Chaos at Denton, TX, on Sept. 28 while Nick Poloson won the B field. Singleton also was the 2019 champion.

Singleton’s “High Risk” dispatched Mark Billington and Ronny Young’s “Blue Max” before taking a 3.767/200.00 win over Doug Schneider’s 3.845/193.30.

Allan Middendorf walked away from a crash into the catch net and sand trap at North Star Dragway after his parachutes failed to deploy. He was checked out by track medical personal and cleared. During the second qualifying session, Middendorf reset the E.T. record in his “American Outlaw” and just barely missed resetting the speed record with a run of 3.574 at 222.99 mph. During the third qualifying session on Saturday he reset that speed record going 3.582 at 227.16 mph before going into net and sand. Unfortunately for Middendorf, the car was heavily damaged and was unable to compete in eliminations. He finished second in the championship points.

Nick Poloson got past Steve Timoszyk and Tod Barker to meet Clay Cunningham in the B final. Poloson’s “Bucket List” turned in a 3.989 at 182.33 mph to Cunningham’s 4.173/170.13.

In addition to their regular racing, Bonne Terre Drag Strip will host 6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0 and 9.0 classes where if you hit the brakes before the finish line or run faster than the index, you lose. The 7.0 to 9.0 cars must complete a 30-mile cruise that begins at 1 p.m.
