AGENT 1320
Agent 1320 has learned that PDRA Pro Boost hitter Tylor Miller will be adding a second Andy McCoy Race Cars Chevelle to the team. The team is getting a new Chevelle for the upcoming 2020 PDRA Pro Boost season.
Last year’s Chevelle will go back to Andy McCoy Race Cars to have the chassis modified to withstand the stress of burning nitromethane. Crew chief/tuner Mike Kopchick has already ordered all of the engine and drive train components to build the car and plans on having it done for the 2020 season. [01/08/20]
Motorsports Developers of King of Prussia has a contract to purchase Maple Grove Raceway near Reading, PA.
Partners in the company, Chris Winter, Joseph Casella and Jordan Levitt, plan to increase seating, add a multi-use track for go-karts and driver training for local police and student drivers, fix traffic flow, improve concession, bring charitable events to the track, and renovate the Maple Grove Restaurant and Bar, according to the Reading Eagle (www.readingeagle.com). [01/08/20]
The Agent is told that the ADRL rules allow nitro-burning doorslammers to compete and he hears rumors that the Funny Car Chaos might allow nitro left-hand steer nitro burners to compete. The Agent recalls that original nitro funny cars all were left-hand steer and had working doors. [01/08/20]
After spending a year promoting the NHRA Top Alcohol classes on social media, InsideTopAlcohol’s Will Hanna is launching a new project – Top Alkahaulin’. The show will feature the stars of the Top Alcohol categories by following two teams through a race weekend. Episode 1 will debut Thursday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m. CST on YouTube and Facebook Watch.
Episode 1 was shot at the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis and followed 2019 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Megan Meyer and 2017 Top Alcohol Funny Car Champion Shane Westerfield through their weekend. Both racers were locked in tight points battles for the Championship going into the biggest race of the year.
Episode 2 is in production and will feature 2019 title contender Troy Coughlin Jr. in Top Alcohol Dragster along with Eastern Region Top Alcohol Funny Car hitter D.J. Cox from the Dodge Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, PA. [01/08/20]
Bradley Hicks will head to the Jan. 11-12 South Coast 660 at South Coast Raceway still smiling about his break-through South Coast Nationals victory at the same venue in December.
After many years of competition, his victory at round six of the Sportsman Series was his first ever Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series victory. The final at the South Coast Nats was in fact so close, neither racer knew who had won until told by officials at the end of the racetrack.
“It was so close! He (Josh Baker) out-reacted me, .001 to .013, so I had a real chase on my hands. We went across the finish line together with no idea who had won till one of the firies gave me the 'thumbs up' after I turned the corner,” the 63-year-old retired wheat and sheep farmer explained. The Sunnen Engine Charity Sweepstakes held at the 2019 PRI trade show set a new record of $120,000 in donations. All proceeds went to Victory Junction, a camp for children living with serious medical conditions founded by the Richard Petty family.
Jerry Lavender of Layton, Utah, won the high-performance engine built by Sonny Leonard. The custom-built 762 ci, 1400 hp, naturally aspirated, Hemi head EFI engine can be driven on the street or on the strip with 93 octane gas. [01/08/20]
Tommy Cunningham, a longtime drag racer, is taking over as owner of Stroud Safety after founder Bob Stroud announced his retirement. Stroud founded the company in 1989 and will stay involved with the business as a consultant. [01/08/20]
