New Product of the Day

BDS 2-inch Blower Spacer

Superchargers installed on engines with the distributor located at the rear of the block often create issues that can only be addressed by providing more space between the blower and distributor. BDS  spacer plates provide an additional 2 inches of clearance between the distributor and the blower. That dramatically enhances the visual impact of the blower. BDS spacer plates are available for 6-71 through 10-71 blowers and 14-71 units with long bottom openings. Each plate is machined in house at BDS from a solid block of 6061T6 billet aluminum and recessed on the top side for a for an O-ring seal. BDS 2-inch spacer plates are shipped fully polished.

DRO racers head for Texas Friday, Saturday

There is a George Strait song that’s called “Take Me Back to Texas” and that is just what is happening this week as DRO editor, Jeff Burk, returns to his home state for the DRO AA/FC Challenge at San Antonio Raceway on May 19-20. It is the first time the series has raced at the track.

Burk is from Amarillo, which is on the opposite side of the state, but in Texas terms, that’s not very far.

“I’m looking forward to getting a Lone Star beer and Texas barbeque with some of John Hale’s Best of Texas Barbeque Sauce,” said Burk.

Hale’s company is presenting sponsor of the event and Hale will be driving his “One Bad Texan” car in his return to AA Funny Car racing. He was the 2011 and 2012 champion of the DRO AA/FC Challenge series, which returns for its eighth season after a one-year hiatus.

The event also will include a special salute to legendary Texas driver and “Blue Max” car owner, Raymond Beadle. Ronny Young will be there competing in his “Blue Max.”

The AA Funny Cars will begin racing at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

Tucson Dragway held their Arizona No Prep event May 12-13 on the eighth mile. Kelly Bluebaugh drove down from Mesa, AZ, to take the Big Car/Big Tire category win over Tucson’s Rocky Salido.

Other winners were Clay Fox (Small Tire), Richard Skully (6.50 Index) and Stephanie Strang (True Street).

Tucson’s next ‘Club Date’ is Saturday, May 20, when ADRA, American DRAGCAR, and R1320 will be attending.

Can Capps make it four in a row?

Defending NHRA Top Fuel champion Ron Capps is on a roll this season, having won at Houston, Charlotte and Atlanta. Next up is Topeka, KS, this weekend.

"I'm pretty pumped," said Capps, who has won three times (1998, 2006 and 2009) at Topeka in five final rounds. "We can run with anybody, especially in cool conditions and that's what we might see this weekend."

Capps goes into the Topeka race leading the Funny Car points, 94 points ahead of Don Schumacher Racing teammate Matt Hagan.

Hessling to drive Moser dragster at Cavalcade of Stars

Back in 2014, when the building of the powerplant for Joe Hessling’s American Race Cars-built dragster was delayed, friend and fellow racer Rob Moser invited him to pilot his American Race Cars-built dragster. It was a match, as Hessling earned his first Wally trophy in Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' Super Comp.

But when his own dragster was ready soon after that, he began laying down 6.30s in Top Dragster and achieved a runner-up finish at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in 2015 and a win at the 10th Annual Cavalcade of Stars in 2016, both at Summit Motorsports Park.

Now, Hessling, who lives in Toledo, Ohio and is an engine-builder at Advanced Product Design in Genoa, Ohio, is readying to roll into the 11th Annual Cavalcade of Stars presented by Budweiser, May 19-21, at Summit Motorsports Park, but instead of being in the cockpit of his dragster, he'll be in the cockpit of one of Rob Moser's other dragsters. It features an Advanced Product Design-built big-block Chevy engine with a ProCharger F-1X-12 and RaceDrive and rolls on a Moser M9 floater rear-end housing and Moser driveline components.

On board to help Hessling at this weekend's event are crew members Ray Connolly and Rocky Van Note.

"I consider Summit Motorsports Park my home track, and winning this event last year was one of the coolest things because of that," said Hessling. "I hope to be able to do it again."
