Four-time Pro Stock champion Greg Anderson takes a three-point lead over KB Racing teammate Bo Butner into the second half of the Countdown. Three-time and reigning Pro Stock title-holder Jason Line is 76 points behind, while rookie sensation Tanner Gray is 94 points out of the top spot.
“This is the heat of the battle. We're halfway through the Countdown to the Championship, and we've got a knock down drag-out brawl going,” said Anderson, whose victory over teammate Line in the final at St. Louis two weeks ago put him atop the standings. “We love it, and this weekend is another very important one.”
Chevrolet has won all 21 Pro Stock events, featuring nine different drivers. Anderson, Butner and Gray have won the Countdown races so far. [10/12/17]

AGENT 1320
Go East, young man? Will the West Coast-based AA/FC drivers travel to Tulsa and Kentucky? Can the Midwest racers afford several trips to the West Coast?
One of the Agent’s most reliable carrier pigeons (now known as Smokey) arrived this morning at the old Phlegm Building, smelling of smoke from a left coast flight.
An NHRA insider had scribbled a note on a vintage Winston wrapper that the Hot Rod Heritage Series will expand the nitro funny car class into Tulsa and to the Holley Hot Rod Reunion at Bowling Green for 2018, joining the Top Fuel class.
Apparently NHRA suits believe that if Midwest AA Funny Car drag racers become invested in the Heritage Series points payout purses it might entice them to tow to the existing legacy events held west of the Rockies. By adding Heritage Series nitro funny cars to Beach Bend, the NHRA Museum will save money on the match race payouts of the past and revert to the purse guidelines developed over 10 years ago in the Series' infancy.
On the backside of the wrapper was validation of the existing Heritage Series schedule. It'll kick off next year with the Good Vibrations March Meet on March 1-4, return to Firebird Raceway for the Ignitor and Nightfires, Mission BC for funny cars, Salt Lake City, and then back to Famoso for the 27th California Hot Rod Reunion. Reportedly, the suits declined requests for NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series events at Spokane and Edmonton BC, both former IHRA sanctioned tracks.
The Agent must say, after the ending of the DRO series due to short fields, getting the Midwest drivers to travel west to the majority of the Heritage races -- or the West Coast drivers to travel to Kentucky -- seems a lot to ask for the money they might win. [10/12/17]
DRO Nostalgia Editor, Brian Losness, weighs in on the news that IHRA is moving to bracket racing only.
And isn’t there some nostalgia race going on later this month? Read about it at here. [10/12/17]
The racers and cars taking part in the exhibition are Frankie Taylor, “Plan B”, Kayla Morton, Tony Foulks, David “Bird” Jones, Larry Baker, “Doc” and “Jolene.” [10/12/17]
The festivities for the 26th annual California Hot Rod Reunion® presented by Automobile Club of Southern California will kick off with a special free event in Bakersfield, CA. On Thursday, Oct. 19, the Original Roadhouse Grill will host a kick-off party at their 8490 Rosedale Highway location beginning at 6 p.m.
John Hale and his “One Bad Texan” Funny Car will be on display with other classic cars that will be taking part at the California Hot Rod Reunion presented by Automobile Club of Southern California on Oct. 20-22 at Auto Club Famoso Raceway. [10/12/17]
