California Hot Rod Reunion caps season this weekend

Jason Rupert (shown) and Ryan Hodgson are the favorites to take the Funny Car championship.

The NHRA Hot Rod Heritage season comes to an end this weekend at Auto Club Famoso in Bakersfield, CA. Veteran DRO photographer Tim Marshall will be on the scene along with Jamie Shores-Fraijo. Brian Losness, DRO Nostalgia Editor, will be keeping track of the action.

Check out the DRO Facebook page for updates and video.

And if you’re interested in putting down a little money on the outcome (not that the Agent condones such a thing), the folks at Bangshift have the odds in the Funny Car category.

Frankie Taylor to drive for Team Bray Racing in Australia

Frankie “Madman” Taylor will drive a Pro Slammer for Team Bray at the upcoming ACDelco East Coast Thunder at Sydney Dragway on Nov. 3-4.

The race car is a brand-new twin of Ben Bray’s own Gulf Western Oil-sponsored Corvette. The original car has been driven by Victor Bray, but at this event Victor will only be driving his ’57 Chevy.

“Earlier in the year I was going to come over to race a third car with the team at the Winternationals, but due to Victor’s health issues that didn’t end up happening, Taylor explained. “Now, as Victor continues his recovery, I am humbled to have the chance to fly the TBR flag for him and to represent Gulf Western Oil at the ACDelco East Coast Thunder.”

Taylor will arrive from Texas on Oct. 26 along with his brother Paul and long-time crew member Jeremy.

Brown to appear in talk session at SEMA Show

If you will attend the SEMA Show this year in Las Vegas, be sure to check out a new late-afternoon feature: Brew Talks. Two midweek sessions will be hosted by Jeff Allen, former host of CNBC’s “The Car Chasers” and now co-host of the podcast “SkidMarks Show.”

On Tuesday, Oct. 31, Allen hosts Dave Kindig and Kevin Schiele of “Bitchin’ Rides” and three-time NHRA Top Fuel champion and “Top Gear America” co-host Antron Brown. On Wednesday, Nov. 1, “Wheeler Dealers” Mike Brewer and Ant Anstead will be the guests along with Magnus Walker of “Urban Outlaw.”

Panelists will cover the latest industry trends, and attendees will learn how they leveraged new and existing media streams to enable their businesses to “go viral.”

The sessions will run from 4 to 5 p.m. and a cash bar will be available at both sessions.
