Jeff Arend (far lane) and Dan Horan at last year’s Nightfire Nationals.
Firebird Raceway near Boise, ID, has just been placed on the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places.
The New family established the drag strip in 1968 and has owned and operated it for the last 51 years. While a couple of other racetracks are listed in the NRHP, Firebird is the first drag racing strip in the United States to achieve the honor.
In other Firebird news, the Discovery Channel’s No Prep Kings will be at the track on July 12-13. Guess that will be historic too. [02/14/19]
The sportsman classes finished on Monday, Feb. 11, under Pomona sunshine.

“Tennessee is located in the eastern United States and from a logistical standpoint supports VP’s rapid expansion. This location appears to provide precisely what VP needs not just to manage what we have been doing but set the foundation for the significant domestic and global growth we project for the future.” Cerwick continued, “Just how much of the San Antonio plant’s production is moved to the Tennessee location is yet to be determined.” [02/14/19]
Mr. Gasket Big Block Mopar Electric Water Pumps
Mr. Gasket’s new electric Mopar water pumps are a great way to free up horsepower and add consistent cooling to high performance engines. They eliminate the parasitic horsepower losses found in traditional mechanical water pumps. These pumps are designed to fit into a stock cast iron or aluminum water pump housing. They are compatible with all B and RB engines from 361-440 cubic inches including 426 Hemis. The black die-cast main body features a billet aluminum impeller and a black powder coated motor cover for great looks. The water pump comes with a mounting gasket, four mounting bolts, and a wiring pigtail. [02/14/19]
