Some U.S. companies say they are already feeling a squeeze from Mr. Trump’s new tariffs on steel and aluminum, forcing them to charge customers more for their products.
As a result, the companies told the Wall Street Journal, some customers have chosen to take their business to foreign suppliers that use cheaper materials that are not subject to the tariffs.
For example, Harley-Davidson recently announced that as a result of the escalating trade war with the European Union the Wisconsin-based company will move their motorcycle production overseas. Harley-Davidson explained that the E.U. tariffs (announced in response to the U.S. tariffs on E.U. goods) would result in an increase of about $2,200 per average motorcycle exported from the U.S. to the E.U.
In addition to the E.U., as a result of the announced U.S. tariffs, other countries have planned tariffs on U.S. goods, including Canada, Mexico and China, expanding the effects to agriculture products as well as steel and aluminum, with a potentially large impact on several industries. It remains to be seen how all this shakes out in the coming months. [06/29/18]
The Specialty Equipment Market Assn. will hold a dinner honoring the new SEMA Hall of Fame inductees along with the incoming and outgoing SEMA Board of Directors on Friday, July 20, at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City. Tickets are available at here. [06/29/18]
Strange Mustang Rear Brake Kit
Strange Engineering has been an innovator in drag racing brakes for over 20 years, and now announces the Strange rear brake kit for 2015-19 Mustangs. It features directional calipers and a new 2-piece rotor design. The Strange Engineering 2-piece rotors utilize a unique floating rotor design that allows for axial and radial growth as temperatures increase. The kit also allows for 15-inch wheels, which do not fit with the factory brakes. When coupled with the matching front brake kit the Strange brake system provides the most dependable brakes on the market. [06/29/18]
