NHRA National Open at Sacramento, Calif.

Wann dominates Stock/Super Stock

Steve Wann dominated the Stock/Super Stock Combo class at the NHRA Pacific Division National Open at Sacramento Raceway Park, as he set the new A/Stock Automatic class record at 9.65 seconds, 136.30 mph, and went on to win the combo eliminator.  Wann, driving his ’62 Plymouth “Mr. 413” defeated Chad Loge in the final round, 9.854, 133.75 (9.89 dial-in) to Loge’s -.005 red-light with his ’70 Plymouth GTX.

A father-daughter pair went to the winner’s circle with their Chevy Camaros, as Jessica Opperman of Napa, Calif., won the Super Street class, and dad Dwayne Opperman took home the Sportsman ET “Wally”. Jessica ran a 10.901 (10.90 index) in the final to beat Joe Greco who broke-out, while Dwayne ran a 12.004 on his 12.00 dial, sending Dennis Bowman to his second runner-up finish of the weekend.

A pair of Las Vegas young ladies went to the final round of the Top Comp class, where Peyton Januik used a .008 reaction time and 7.050, 186.51 (7.00 dial) to defeat Brianna Wiens, losing with a 6.910, 191.27 (6.88 dial).

Rick Mangeli won Super Comp with a final round 8.909, 178.71 to defeat Justin Morgan.

Bobby Hartshorn went to the winner’s circle with his ’64 Land Cruiser beating Ron Kelly Jr., in the final 9.903 to a 9.907.

Edward Bradell of Sacramento had a big weekend on his Suzuki motorcycle, defeating Ken Machost in the final on Saturday, and “doubling-up” by beating Michael O’Neil on Sunday.

 

Bracket race winners over the weekend included Randy Cloud (Super Pro), Jake Guadagnolo (Pro ET), and Brian Kam (Sportsman ET) on Saturday. Sunday’s champions included Eric Reyes (Super Pro), Henry Roberson (Pro ET), and Dwayne Opperman (Sportsman ET).

Jake Hodges took the Junior Drag Racing League spotlight at Sacramento, winning both 6-9-year-old class titles over the weekend. Jake, driving the K&N junior dragster, defeated Brian Price on Saturday, and completed his double victory by edging out Ethan Molletti on Sunday.

Nolan Oliveira missed a double-up in the Junior Comp class, as he lost to Cole Rouse in the final on Saturday, but defeated Jon Flores in the final on Sunday.

 

Other junior winners included Macie Gordon, Lacey Martin, Keoki Desa, Kade Renoll, Ayden Pires, and Grace Harmon.
