Oddy and Ward repeat U.S. 131 gasser record

Owner Jim Oddy and driver Junior Ward set a gasser record of 4.75 seconds back in September 2016 at “The Fastest Track in Michigan”, U.S. 131 Motorsports Park. The duo repeated that ET in the “Junkyard Dog” last weekend during qualifying at the PDRA Summer Drags.

The rest of the competition was not far behind with 4-second times all weekend.

Driver Dan Szewczyk in “Calamity Jane” wowed the crowd with a fantastic burnout. When it cleared, “Jane” was practically parallel-parked on the drag strip.

Ward went on to drive to the win with a 4.84 at 145 mph.

Next up for the Supercharged AA Gassers of America is June 28-30 at Virginia Motorsports Park for the PDRA Firecracker Nationals.

‘Speed Demon’ on display for Lucas Oil employees

The sleek Poteet & Main "Speed Demon" Bonneville racer unloaded at Lucas Oil Products Headquarters in Corona, CA, for the annual Employee Appreciation BBQ over the weekend. Many Lucas Oil-supported racecars, funny cars and jets were on display with food, drink and great times for employees and friends.

It was the first time that Lucas Oil founder Forrest Lucas (second from right) had the opportunity to see the 437+ mph record setting Duttweiler Performance Mopar-powered streamliner. Lucas Oil Motorsports Manager Tom Bogner is third from right.

NHRA returns to Virginia

The NHRA Big Show returns to Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie, VA, this weekend. The track was added back into the National event lineup after the Englishtown, NJ, track dropped from this year’s schedule. It last held an NHRA national event in 2009.

This will be the second of four weekends in a row for the pros. John Force is scheduled to drive less than a week after hitting the guard wall repeatedly at Joliet, his fourth incident of the season. It has to be a difficult weekend for the 61-year-old driver.

Steve Torrence holds the Top Fuel points lead, but is feeling pressure from Clay Millican, who has won the last two events.

“You need somebody pushing you and Clay’s definitely giving us a shove,” Torrence said. “Those guys are definitely contenders and it’s pretty awesome that ours are the two teams that are leading the points right here, halfway to the Countdown.”

Since the NHRA changed to the countdown format in 2007, every Top Fuel champion has come from one of the sport’s mega-teams. But that may not be the case this year.

New car for John Troxel

A note written on butcher’s paper was in the mayo jar on the Phlegm Building’s second story penthouse porch this morning along with a couple of photos of the new funny car for John Troxel.

The note tells the Agent that the car is a tribute to Lew Arrington's “Brutus” Mustang F/C. It has a Brad Anderson 500" alcohol Hemi with a 14-71 blower. The car has never been down the track since being built approximately five years ago by Bob Rosetty at Funny Farm Fabrication. It is going to Ty Baumgartner's Missouri shop for a few changes and updates and will be with the Victory NSS racers this week at Eddyville making a few shake-down runs.

Owner Troxel and driver Chris Schneider hope to debut at the Funny Car Nationals at Keystone Raceway Park in Pennsylvania on July 14th if all goes well. Troxel’s old Challenger F/C and all Donovan parts are for sale.
