Josh Hart and Steve Burck raced to victory July 8 at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and the Summer Spectacle at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis. Hart took home the honors in Top Alcohol Dragster as Burck ousted the field in Top Alcohol Funny Car.

Hart, Ocala, FL, qualified No. 2 and met up with third generation racer Troy Coughlin Jr., Delaware, OH, who was coming off a win at the last Lucas Oil North Central Division event in Norwalk, Ohio. Ray Drew, Hales Corners, WI, was out first on Burck only to have Texas racer Burck come around him for the win. Burck clocked in at 5.696, 261.07 in his ‘17 Camaro funny car for the third win of his career.

Devin Isenhower advanced to the final in both Super Gas and Super Comp looking for the elusive double-up. He first faced off with Rusty Cook in Super Gas with Cook taking the holeshot with a perfect .000 second reaction time. Isenhower, Lebanon, IN, made it up on the top end taking the win and the first half of the double-up with a 9.908 on the 9.90 index. In Super Comp, Isenhower got the early lead but it was Adam Gerber, Massillon, OH, with the better package running 8.908 at 172.32 for his first career win, denying Isenhower a second win for the weekend.

Stock Eliminator saw a heads-up final round with Ken Whitcher, Beloit, OH, taking on Bo Fowler, Mooresville, IN. Fowler left a tick too quick and Whitcher ran it out to a 11.320-second pass in his ’69 Camaro for his first win.

In the DRAW/RFC Super Shootouts presented by Moser Engineering, Raymond Miller took the win in Super Comp, Paul Fidler won in Super Gas and Jay Wilson captured Super Street.

The Agent has now confirmed that plans for a new multi-use motorsports facility and drag strip near central California’s Santa Maria Valley have just about cleared all of the necessary governmental approvals. With county board of supervisors hurdles cleared, the plot of land has been acquired and may begin grading in the next sixty to ninety days. Santa Maria has a rich drag racing history, having held races dating back to the early 1950’s on what is now Foster Road and on a portion of the municipal airport grounds.  [07/10/18]

With over twenty pre-entries, Funny Car Chaos is set to bring the thunder to Central Illinois Dragway for what should shape up to be the biggest event in track history, July 27-28 in Havana, IL.

Cars from 10 states have signed up for this rules-free outlaw showdown including John Hale, Keith Jackson, Mike McIntire Jr. (shown) and more. Sixteen cars will qualify and be split into 'A' and 'B' eight-car fields for eliminations with qualifying starting on Friday night under the lights.

The double-race weekends of the Summit Sportsman Spectacular return after a short summer break to Keystone Raceway Park in New Alexandria, PA, on Aug. 3-5. The weekend features a $10,000-to-win event on Moser Engineering Saturday and $5,000-to-win on Sunday.

In addition to having the opportunity to get two races for the price of one, the Summit Sportsman spectacular events feature cash bonuses for the IHRA Summit SuperSeries member that goes the furthest in eliminations or wins the event.

Weekend round prizes are given for the best losing package and national contingency is available for all IHRA member who advance to the final two rounds each day.
