Jim will be cremated and interred next to his beloved wife, Sherry. We extend our sympathy to his son Brad Baker and the rest of his family. He will be missed. [09/03/19]
Following a high-speed crash during the fifth and final round of E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series qualifying at the U.S. Nationals, Chad Green was transported by ambulance to Indiana University Methodist Hospital where he is to undergo surgery to address an upper back injury.
“Right now, we’re focused on getting Chad on the mend. He’s with his family – his mother and father have flown in – and his kids were by his side all night,” said Pat Musi, Green’s crew chief. “He’s alert, talking, knows what’s going on and what happened. The doctors have gotten his pain under control, and he’ll be going into surgery this afternoon (Sept. 2).”
The Midland, TX, racer made his debut in NHRA Pro Mod last year. [09/03/19]
Jimmy Daniels made a bit of history by winning his fourth consecutive Dodge Hemi Challenge at the U.S. Nationals. See the race report at here. [09/03/19]
During Friday’s qualifying at the U.S. Nationals some strange events unfolded. After taking over 70 minutes to clean up a sportsman car oil-down and events for the afternoon hopelessly behind schedule, the decision was made to give time runs to Greg Anderson and Warren Johnson for their “Back to School” match race to be run later.
“The Professor” evidently decided he's part Pat Minick and part 'Tokyo-drifts' and on his solo he boiled the hides with such fury that he spun out and hit the wall. All airbags discharged and the car needed to be hauled off on a wrecker, slowing things even further.
You can be sure the folks in the Ohio Gassers circuit (cut because of time), the people in the stands who wanted to SEE them, and the masses who paid $47 or more for a Friday ticket were not amused by nearly two hours of nothing happening on the track. [09/03/19]
Round two of the 2019 Summit Racing Queensland Championships has been run and won at Benaraby Raceway on Aug. 31. There is now just one event standing between the racers of the popular three-round regional series and being crowned the Summit Racing Queensland Champions with prestigious ANDRA Copper Christmas Tree Trophies.

On Sunday following the first round of Lucas Oil Racing Series eliminations Competition Eliminator racer Ed Federkeil, a retired firefighter with 30+ years of service, along with sponsor E3 Spark Plugs donated 15 protective hoods to the NHRA Safety Safari on behalf of Florida-based charity Hoods for Heroes. Federkeil provided the space to Hoods for Heroes on his Dodge Avenger and worked with sponsors E3 Spark Plugs to make this donation happen.
Prior to the event Federkeil along with Hoods for Heroes reps Jeff Rountree and Bill Hamilton spoke with Bob Lang from the NHRA Safety Safari about donating 15 protective hoods that can help reduce head and neck exposure to carcinogens by 99% to the member of the Safety Safari. Understanding that safety and protective gear is one of the most costly elements of fire protection, Bullard, a leading manufacturer of high-quality personal protective equipment and systems, provided the hoods, which are valued at over $2,000.
The donation was made possible by the generosity of Bullard hoods and E3 Spark Plugs who covered the cost of the hoods for Hoods for Heroes to donate to the Safety Safari. [09/03/19]
On Saturday Brittany Force put down an impressive blast of 3.645 seconds at 332.26 mph to set the track record in her Advance Auto Parts dragster and remain in the top spot in the quickest qualifying field in Top Fuel history.
Funny Car featured a record-tying 15 drivers in the 3-second zone, led by No. 1 qualifier Jack Beckman with a 3.861 at 335.23 mph. [09/03/19]
Vic Puglia of Amherst, NY, reset the Lancaster Dragway record books while en route to winning the Supercharged Bounty Hunter Pro Modified vs. Dragster Shootout on Friday night, Aug. 30, at New York International Raceway Park. Puglia set a new track for fastest run by a Top Dragster with an elapsed time of 3.92 seconds at 186.89 mph.
Weekly IHRA Drag Racing winners included Mike Mallare of Tonawanda, NY, in Mallare Trucking Top ET; Bill Bigham of Niagara Falls scored his third win in Top 8 Eliminator. Brittany Balser of Cheektowaga, NY, earned her first career win in Gianna Mazia’s Mod. In Hebeler’s Sales Bikes & Sleds, Mike Peters of Angola, NY, picked up his fourth win of 2019. Mark Santucci II of Lancaster won Tread City Tire Street.
The Supercharged Bounty Hunters put a unique twist on their final appearance of 2019 at Lancaster as four top Pro Modifieds from the region went up against four of the best rear engine dragsters. Puglia advanced to the finals where he went up against Jack Grainy’s Pro Modified Camaro. Grainy got off the starting line first, but Puglia cruised past him in another run of less than four seconds to win the Pro Mod/Dragster Shootout. [09/03/19]
