AGENT 1320
SFG Promotions, Inc. heads to Darlington Dragway for its 4th annual World Series of Bracket Racing event. The event will be held Oct. 30-Nov. 2, directly following the Mickey Thompson Million Dollar race at Montgomery Raceway Park. SFG says racers can come straight from Alabama to Darlington, NC, for a shot at big money without the “big entry fees.”
This year, SFG’s World Series event will highlight a $200,000 main event on Saturday for a $799 price tag on pre-entries. In typical SFG fashion, all payouts are guaranteed to a single winner.
The Agent has to ask, since when is an $800 ($799) entry fee to win $200,000 not considered a big entry fee event? [10/24/19]
Although the Nostalgia Top Fuel championship has already been clinched by Mendy Fry, other class championships are still to be determined at the California Hot Rod Reunion this weekend, the final event of the 2019 NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series.
Veteran Jeff Arend (shown) is the current points leader in Nostalgia Funny Car, but defending world champ Bobby Cottrell and Dan Horan are both within striking distance. Adding to the nitro-fueled excitement will be the title race in A/Fuel, where Kin Bates will look to reclaim his throne against young standout Drew Austin, who got his first championship in the class a year ago. Overall, racers in 17 different categories will be competing for coveted Hot Rod Reunion trophies and for the Heritage Series Championship Wally trophies during the weekend.
Check DRO’s Facebook page for weekend updates. [10/24/19]
Agent 1320 has learned from multiple sources that the NHRA management at the highest levels have been meeting with representatives and racers for Nostalgia Funny Car, Nostalgia Top Fuel, and cackle car owners on how to improve both the Hot Rod Reunion races and their Heritage Series races for the Top Fuel and Funny Cars.
A tip of the Agent’s fedora to current NHRA management for paying attention to their Heritage Series and races after years of the previous management at NHRA ignoring both. [10/24/19]
Chris Graves’ Funny Car Chaos will have an additional (non-points) appearance this year on Nov. 1-2 at the Penwell Knights Raceway in Odessa, TX. Also on the schedule for the Oil Field Nationals will be a Big Tire Shootout, a Small Tire Shootout, a Jr. Dragster Shootout, and the Dirty South Gassers. [10/24/19]
Doubling up wins on an NHDRO race weekend is a big enough achievement, but doubling up AND securing a championship at the Midwest’s largest all-motorcycle drag racing series is something else altogether. But three of the world’s toughest sportsman racers — Joe “Big” Deck (shown), Dustin Lee, and Ron Arnold — did just that Oct. 18-20 at NHDRO’s Kenneth R. Schwartz attorney at law Motorcycle Madness Nationals and World Finals at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway in Madison, IL.
See all the results at here.
Next year all NHDRO races will move to the centrally located, hallowed grounds of Lucas Oil Raceway near Indianapolis. [10/24/19]
Due to wildfires in the area, the Racing History Project has rescheduled their San Fernando Drags and Devil’s Hairpin event to Sunday, Nov. 7, from 3 to 7 p.m. The event will feature videos and panel discussions about the two racing venues. Tickets must be purchased in advance from www.racinghistoryproject.com. [10/24/19]
