Bryan Sanders already had the win before he ever put Tommy Thompson's "Nitrochondriac" Top Fuel Hydro boat in the water for the finals of the John Haas Memorial Nationals Sunday, June 11, on the lake at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. That's because his scheduled opponent, Kevin Burgess, couldn't make the call in his "Locked and Loaded" entry, giving Sanders what would have been an uncontested victory pass.
But an unrelenting high wind that permeated the weekend became too much too handle and the final rounds of Top Fuel Hydro, Top Alcohol Hydro and Top Alcohol Flat were called off by race officials. Ultimately, winners in the sport's top three categories were determined by numbers posted in the semifinals.
Sanders is now three for three as the series heads to his home state June 23-25 for the Showdown in San Angelo, Texas.
Before the wind made the water too choppy, the Pro Mod class did crown a champion and once again it was former NHRA racer Shawn Reed, who also remains undefeated on the season. Reed took the trophy in his "Top Secret" boat with a 6.998 at 172.78 mph against Marty Logan's 7.074 at 167.81 mph in his "Livin' The Dream" boat.
Other winners on the weekend included Tim Connelly in Pro Eliminator, Steve Prewit in Quick Eliminator, Kelvin Perkins in Top Eliminator, Al Kirsch era in Stock Eliminator, Tracy Lowe in River Racer and Nate Stephenson in Personal Watercraft. [06/13/17]
Owners of Corvette Z06 track cars today sued General Motors for knowingly selling allegedly defective Z06 models that, while marketed as having “track-proven structure and technologies,” cannot actually be operated safely on a racetrack and enter a performance-limited “limp mode” while tracked, even on public roadways, according to Hagens Berman and Grossman Roth Yaffa Cohen, co-counsel law firms representing the plaintiffs.
According to the lawsuit, owners have reported that despite GM’s marketing of the 2015-2017 model year Z06 cars, the vehicles would overheat and often enter limp mode after only about 15 minutes of track driving due to a defective cooling system. When the vehicle enters limp mode, according to the complaint, its power and speed are “drastically reduced,” creating an obviously dangerous event when surrounded by speeding cars. Plaintiffs allege in the suit that they have experienced limp mode also while on public roadways. The defect also causes damage to the engine due to warping from high temperatures, the suit says.
Attorneys estimate there are more than 30,000 affected Corvette Z06 cars in the proposed class.
If you own or lease a 2015-2017 Corvette Z06, you may be entitled to compensation for this defect that inhibits your car’s performance. Contact Hagens Berman to find out more about this issue and your consumer rights against GM. [06/13/17]
In Q3 Saturday at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, Jack Beckman was running with DSR teammate Ron Capps. Beckman got about 500 feet out when he lost a cylinder and then the blower blew. He brought it to a stop and quickly got out of the car. Capps made it safely down the track.
The crew was able to make repairs to Terry Chandler’s Infinite Hero Dodge Charger and go on to win the Funny Car class. See all the results here. [06/13/17]
Shaun Johnston braved the heat and the challenge of 29 other Super Stock racers to claim the Nostalgia Nationals title at Eddyville, Iowa. The finals came down to Johnston's wedge-powered ’67 Plymouth against Bill Schlee's 1965 Hemi Belvedere. Shaun took his first Victory NSS series win with a very close finish over Schlee's Hemi.
The Victory series (victorynss.com) returns to action at Cedar Falls Raceway on July 14-15, along with the DRO AA/FC Challenge.[06/13/17]
