Another Don Schumacher Racing car will make a wardrobe change this week as Matt Hagan’s Mopar Funny Car will have Sandvik Coromant back as main sponsor.
And the team led by crew chief Dickie Venables and assistant Michael Knudsen is ready for hot weather.
“We learned a lot about our hot weather tune-up last weekend in Englishtown,: Hagan said. “It’s hard to back these cars down and then you start dropping cylinders and it’s a challenge for these crew chiefs.
“All I have to do is hit the gas on time, keep it in the groove, and pull the chutes. They’ve got the big challenge.”

Michigan’s Milan Dragway will host the High School & College Drag Racing Nationals on Friday, June 16. The event is sponsored by Washtenaw Community College.
The event gives high school and college students a chance to lay down some rubber and drive as fast as they can in a safe environment without fear of a speeding ticket.
Dozens of schools work hard all year in their auto shops to build a designated school car, while other racers show up in anything from a souped-up daily driver to the family minivan.
This event will also have a School’s Out Summer Kick-Off Party with a live DJ, bonfire, and spectator games. [06/14/17]

After announcing just a week ago that they would add nitromethane to the Pro Extreme class, the PDRA now will not make that change.
The Department of Homeland Security regulates every use of nitromethane in the United States, and those who use the additive must undergo rigorous screening and meet certain regulations. The addition of nitromethane, as was proposed for the next stop on the PDRA tour, is simply not possible.
“The PDRA always strives to run our association to the highest standard,” said PDRA’s Bob Harris. “We make every effort to abide by our sanctioning requirements. It is unfortunate that we initially proceeded with the rule changes before learning about the additional security measures surrounding nitromethane. We do hope that this has not caused any inconvenience to our racers and apologize to everyone for our oversight.” [06/14/17]
Leah Pritchett will return to her customary Papa John’s Pizza gold paint for this week’s NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, TN.
The Demon didn’t do so well for Pritchett. She had two races with the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon logo on the DSR Top Fuel dragster at Epping and Englishtown, and two early exits from the competition. She dropped from leading the championship points to number three going into Bristol. Say, you don’t suppose that Demon was cursed? [06/14/17]
