Hot time at Sydney Nitro Thunder

In the first round of competition at Sydney Dragway’s Nitro Thunder, Mark Mariani was competing against Damien Harris when his engine let go in the traps.

Since the IHRA took over the sanction of the track the two have enjoyed solid support of their major meetings from the paying public, DRO’s Australian correspondent Jon Van Daal reports.

We’ll have all the results and the complete fire sequence tomorrow in DRO.

U.S. Pro Stock Motorcycle Open set for June

The first ever U.S. Pro Stock Motorcycle Open will be held Saturday, June 3, at the New Capitol Raceway in Gambrills, MD. Rain date will be June 4.

Longtime NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Steve Johnson (shown) and racer and plumbing contractor Tony Tull have put together a special “all-run” event for the two-wheeled crowd that will pay a $20,000 purse.

“I really have to thank all the first-comers like Chip Ellis and the Aranas,” said Johnson. “They saw what this could be.

“We have tried for years to get booked into match races,” Johnson continued. “These kinds of event help grow the racer and the category’s brand. At the end of the day, NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycles are just one of four stores in NHRA’s Mello Yello mall. We need to engage motorcycle fans in the excitement, technology, and personality of the bikes’ drivers, crew, and owners. This U.S. Open (or warm-up) will let us be the headline to showcase our stuff and show the ‘mall’ that we are doing our part to grow the NHRA.”

Pennzoil renews with DSR for years to come

Don Schumacher announced that Pennzoil will continue as the official "Oil Technology of Don Schumacher Racing" in NHRA with a new multiyear agreement.

"We've been working with DSR since March of 2015, when Pennzoil became the "Official Oil Technology of Don Schumacher Racing," said Mark Henry, Shell Lubricants Brand and Communications Manager. "Since making the switch to Pennzoil to protect their 11,000-horsepower engines, the DSR teams have had outstanding performances on the NHRA circuit, breaking track records and posting world championships each season. We're really pleased to be part of such an incredible winning team."

In addition to developing an engine oil that withstands the rigors of an 11,000-horsepower supercharged engine fueled by a blend of nitromethane, Pennzoil supports DSR's primary community charity, Riley Children's Hospital for Children in Indiana.

Pennzoil will also be a major associate sponsor of current NHRA Top Fuel points leader Leah Pritchett and her primary backer for at least one NHRA Mello Yello event this year. It also has a major presence on the Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car of two-time world champion Matt Hagan and as a major associate on reigning world champion Ron Capps' NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodge.
