Summer Thunder gets under way in Australia

The Santo’s Summer Thunder began at Sydney Dragway with rookie Kelly Bettes (shown) making the quickest pass in Top Fuel with a 3.87 at over 494 kmh (306.9 mph).

 

American Ashley Sanford claimed the number 5 position, just behind her Rapisarda Autosport International teammate Damien Harris. The racing continues on Saturday.   

‘Tricky Rickie’ clocks first (unofficial) nitrous PM in the 5.60’s

Pro Mod champion and pioneer Ricky Smith recorded the first quarter-mile nitrous run under 5.70 seconds on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Orlando Speed World Dragway.

 

Driving his Jerry Bickel Race Cars Camaro with Pat Musi power, Smith clocked a 5.690 at 247.47 mph for the quarter mile. Although the time is unofficial, Smith said the car was in legal NHRA trim.

 

Under new rules nitrous racers can use lock-up converters with a 25-lb. penalty over clutches and non-lock up automatics with engines up to 910 cubic inches.    

Good Vibrations to sponsor 2018 UNFC race series

Good Vibrations has just signed on to be the title sponsor of the five-event United Nitro Funny Car Series  Jim Maher, president of Good Vibrations and Bill Doner, CEO of UNFC have announced.

 

Points will be awarded at each event for qualifying and round wins with $10,000 going to the season champion, $6,000 for second, $4,00 for third, $3,000 for fourth, and $2,000 for fifth place.

 

The 2018 schedule is

 

April 13-14: Tucson Dragway, Tucson, AZ

July 4: Spokane Co. Raceway, Spokane, WA

July 6-7: Pacific Raceways, Kent, WA

July 13-15: Castrol Raceway, Edmonton, AB, Canada

Aug. 17-18: Spokane Co. Raceway   

SoCal Pro Gas Assn. celebrates 40 years

Ed Sigmon was the first Pro Gas champion in 1980 (the points series was not contested in 1978-79).

 

The Southern California Pro Gas Association is celebrating their 40th anniversary of 9.90 index racing and has released their 2018 schedule.

 

The first two races of the eight-race series take place on Feb. 3-4 at the Auto Club Dragway in Fontana California with $1,500 to the winner and $750 to the runner-up of both days. Saturday is the Russ Harris Memorial Race and Sunday's racing is sponsored by Champion Cooling Systems.

John Ross is the defending champion. 

 

The 2018 series consists of the best six out of eight races and the season champion will receive a one week vacation for two to Maui, Hawaii, courtesy of long-time So Cal Pro Gas participants and sponsors Les and Jeannette Harris.

K&N to host first SEMA Town Hall Meeting of year

SEMA will hold its first Town Hall Meeting of 2018 on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at K&N Engineering in Riverside, CA. The event, which runs from 6 to 9 p.m., will provide SEMA members and prospective members the opportunity to learn about the association’s current programs along with networking with automotive aftermarket professionals from the same geographic region.

Chevrolet honors John Force Racing at Detroit Auto Show

Reigning NHRA Top Fuel world champion Brittany Force, two-time and reigning NHRA Funny Car world champion Robert Hight and 16-time Funny Car world champion John Force were featured guests at Chevrolet’s Detroit Dealers Auto Show Kick-Off Breakfast on Thursday, Jan. 18.

 

The Chevy leadership team presented the three champions with Crossed Flag Awards highlighting each individual’s championship qualities. Hight, also the President of John Force Racing, was highlighted for being a champion and a leader. Brittany Force, the first woman to win a Top Fuel world championship in 35 years, was also recognized as a champion and a role model. John Force, who now has 20 world championships as a team owner, was given recognition as a father, icon and team owner.

Holley has released Holley Fuel Cell EFI Pump Module Assemblies, which drop right in as a direct replacement for existing fuel cell cap assemblies. These systems make updating a racing fuel system to EFI a simple affair. Available in your choice of either 6-bolt or 12-bolt flanges and your choice of 255 LPH or 450 LPH fuel pumps, they come complete with a -8AN inlet port, a -10AN outlet port, a fuel-filler cap, and all the hardware for a fast, easy installation.
