Veteran photographer Tim Marshall dies

Long-time drag racing photographer Tim Marshall died on Sunday, Jan. 21, at age 71.

Marshall was based in southern California for most of his career but moved to Las Vegas several years ago. Shooting for many publications and books over a career that lasted almost five decades, Marshall was previously Photo Editor of Hot Rod Magazine and at Super Stock & Drag Illustrated and was a contributor to DRO from the beginning in 1999.

“Tim was one of my best friends and a co-worker for over 35 years,” said DRO Editor Jeff Burk. “He loved drag racing and drag racing people. He was part of an iconic group of photographers who pioneered drag racing photography in the early ‘60s. He will be missed.”

Marshall leaves his sister, Pam Switek, girlfriend Jamie Shores-Fraijo, and dogs Shadow and Chica.

As Tim wanted, the body will be cremated. Burk and other friends are planning a Celebration of Life during the March Meet. Arrangements are incomplete at this time.
