Last year Bo Butner defeated his KB Racing teammate Greg Anderson for the trophy at Summit Motorsports Park. Defending Pro Stock champion Bo Butner began the 2018 season with a win at the Winternationals, but since then has been struggling to get back in the winner’s circle.
"I felt very fortunate to win Norwalk last year, and it is really an honor to have Summit Racing as an associate sponsor on my car this year,” Butner said. “They're not just a good company – they're a great company. They step up big for this team and for NHRA. They do a lot for the sportsman racers and for the Jr. drag racers, and I think that's great.
“As for my car, any weekend could be a turnaround race. I'm very much looking forward to this weekend because they just redid the racing surface at Summit Motorsports Park, and my Chevy Camaro has been very good on new tracks this year. I hear the surface there in Norwalk is great, and the Bader family, they're first-class. It should be a great weekend for us." [06/22/18]
To close out the season, Car Chix will debut ‘Car Chix Outlaw’, a heads-up eighth-mile “run what ya brung” drag race at Cordova International Dragway in Cordova, IL, on October 13. [06/22/18]
For the first time in nearly 10 years, the QA1/Gear Vendors True Street fields of NMRA and NMCA will run on Chicagoland Speedway’s NASCAR track for the 30-mile cruise during the 13th annual Nitto Tire NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing.
On Saturday, July 28, True Street participants will exit the Route 66 Raceway property and drive across the street to the Chicagoland Speedway, through the infield and onto the racing oval for 30 miles before returning to the strip and making three passes.
The True Street field will be run as one field with a double purse payout, free entry into Bracket 3 on Sunday, and the Overall Winner gets an Edelbrock Victor trophy. NMRA/NMCA will also crown winners with the quickest average in the 9-, 10-, 11-, 12-, 13-, 14-, and 15-second time zones. All winners will celebrate in the famous Aerospace Components Winner’s Circle, creating a memorable and enjoyable finale to the True Street challenge.
“We’d like to give special thanks to Scott Paddock, Terry Greetham, and the Route 66 Raceway/Chicagoland Speedway team for making this happen. They’ve been a great partner of ProMedia since 2001 and opening up the oval track for True Street just adds to the legacy of this blockbuster event,” said NMRA/NMCA general manager and event director Rollie Miller. Shane Conway has never driven a racecar down Summit Motorsports Park so he's looking at this weekend's NHRA National event as the perfect place for a fresh start in his Magic Dry/CatSpot Organic Cat Litter Top Alcohol Dragster.
Conway, son of drag racer Tom Conway, has been at the Ohio track as a crewman and crew chief, but not as a driver.
He won his first-ever Top Alcohol Dragster race last year at Noble, OK, and has been serving as a break-in vehicle for tires for the CatSpot Top Fuel teams of Scott Palmer and Don Lagana and the two CAPCO Top Fuel dragsters driven by Steve and Billy Torrence.
"We've been struggling with the heat. We've used a lot of passes to scuff tires for the two CatSpot Top Fuel dragsters and the two CAPCO Top Fuel dragsters and we're having issues getting them to work for us with
any consistency.
"The CAPCO guys like them back after one run and Scott likes them back after two runs and it's been hard for us to get a good combination and tune up with a different tire pretty much every round. We can do it, for sure, we just have to keep working at it to figure out what our car wants."
Taking some steps in the direction of consistency, Conway and crew recently attended a regional race in Tulsa, OK, to work on their car without outside concerns.
"We felt like we needed to make more laps so we went to Tulsa," Conway said. "It's one thing to test and another entirely to run a race set-up to NHRA specs. Plus, you can gauge yourself against the other teams and see how you stack up. [06/22/18]
Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH, has launched a mobile app to give fans a new way to explore all of its offerings.
The mobile app, which follows the recent redesign of the park’s website, was developed by William J. Thomas Consulting and features the same content found on the website. Additionally, mobile app users will receive push-notifications for breaking news, event updates, promotions, contests and more. [06/22/18]
In honor of the Summer Solstice yesterday (June 21), the Agent is sharing with you this item about solar power. One of the world’s largest photovoltaic plants in the automotive industry can be found in the SEAT (www.seat.com) automobile factory in Martorell, Catalonia, Spain.
Covering an area equivalent to 40 football (soccer) fields, its 53,000 panels reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 4,000 tons annually. The plant generates 17 million kWh a year, enough energy to charge 3,000 mobile phones or supply the needs of a city with 15,000 inhabitants.
A drone is responsible for a part of the maintenance of this facility. It flies over the whole plant once a month, equipped with a visual sensor and a thermographic camera, to perform an analysis of the panels and verify their operation, and 16 inspection flights are made at a height of 35 meters (just over 114 feet).
The company’s goal is to reduce its water consumption, CO2 emissions and waste generated, among others, by half compared to the year 2010.
A tip of the Agent’s sun visor to a company making a difference. [06/22/18]

“We have been looking to brand our company and specifically our STREAK visual ammunition in motorsports for quite some time,” said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AMMO, Inc. Fred Wagenhals. “After carefully reviewing several proposals and holding several meetings, we decided that Roy Hill Racing would be a great brand ambassador for our company and that drag racing would be a perfect way to reach our target demographic.”
STREAK is a NEXT – GENERATION Non-Flammable visual “tracer style” ammunition, which is a non-incendiary round, safe for indoor and outdoor use. This round allows the shooter to keep a visual on the projectiles path towards the target which is great for training as well as exciting to shoot.
Joining Roy Hill Racing at this weekend’s NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, is AMMO, Inc. sponsored shooter, Jen Blake. Blake is a competitive 3-Gun shooter who travels the country competing as well as representing AMMO, Inc. at various industry functions.
“I see so many similarities between drag racing and competitive shooting,” said Blake. “Both require an equal amount of skill and precision with very little room for error. I think this partnership is a perfect fit for AMMO, Inc. and I have to admit I am excited to get to attend some drag races.” [06/22/18]
