North Carolina Motorsports Hall of Famer Tommy Mauney cruised to victory in the Extreme Outlaw Pro Mod portion of Saturday’s Spring Extreme Drags at Rockingham Dragway while Allen Furr and Michael Smith grabbed the Footbrake and Top ET titles, respectively.
Mauney, the Shelby, NC, chassis builder who won the 1995 IHRA Pro Mod Championship, saved his best for last, guiding his replica 1968 Chevy Camaro through the eighth-mile timers in 3.844 seconds in the final round to turn back the Camaro of Tony Wilson (3.900).
Nicole Zuccarelli was the Jr. Dragster winner.
Terry Rosberg directed the Southern Thunder jet dragster to a finish line speed of 284 mph to highlight the exhibition show. The event awarded track championship and NHRA Summit Series points in Top ET, Footbrake and Jr. Dragster.
It was a family affair in the MXA Street Car Shootout where Hamlet’s Trey Sikes drove his 2009 BMW 335D to victory over the 2014 Audi driven by his wife, Holly Smith. [05/14/18]
Steve Wann dominated the Stock/Super Stock Combo class at the NHRA Pacific Division National Open at Sacramento Raceway Park on May 6, as he set the new A/Stock Automatic class record at 9.65 seconds, 136.30 mph, and went on to win the combo eliminator.
See all of the National Open results at here. [05/14/18]
At the recent OSCR-V event, NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion Eddie Krawiec was driving an X-275 car. Krawiec has been involved with a variety of drag cars over the years and this latest one had a best of 4.60 at 161 MPH for the weekend but not enough to make the show. This car is a new build and is in the testing/tuning phase for the time being. [05/14/18]
