Bill Glidden returned to the racing scene at last weekend’s NMCA Muscle Car Nationals held at the Indianapolis Lucas Oil Raceway. Son of the legendary Bob Glidden, Bill took the wheel of his 1990 Mustang GT in the Nitrous Pro Street class. He met Tony Gillig in the final round and Glidden’s 4.31-second run got to the finish line before Gillig’s 4.36.
See the rest of the results from the NMCA season-ender at here. [09/24/19]
Mendy Fry and Bobby Cottrell (shown below) also were the winners at the August Heritage race in Spokane, WA.
Mendy Fry drove the High Speed Motorsports dragster to the win for the second time at the Nitro Nationals at Tulsa Raceway Park. Fry took the win with a 5.60-second, 258-mph blast over runner-up Adam Sorokin, who posted a 5.98 ET at 186 MPH after the automatic shutoff malfunctioned and shut down the Champion Speed Shop small block Chevrolet around the 800-foot mark. There were five Top Fuelers at the Sept. 21 event, with Jim Murphy, Tyler Hilton and Tim Cullinan making up the rest of the field.
The Nitro Nationals was Fry's fourth consecutive event victory and clinched her second NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series Top Fuel Championship.
Onetime High Speed Motorsports driver/tuners Sean Bellemeur and Troy Green joined the crew and family in honor for crew chief Tom Shelar, who died unexpectedly last month.
Bobby Cottrell was the winner of the five-car Funny Car competition. He got a bye in the first round, then ran 5.714/253.75 to win over Dan Horan Jr’s 5.754/258.91. Cottrell got the final-round win over Brandon Lewis. Other FC drivers were Nancy Matter and Jeff Arend.
The Agent can’t help but wonder how many NHRA-legal Funny Cars will be at the Funny Car Chaos this weekend in Denton, TX, the possible third race in four weeks for the racers, or if they might be saving their parts and travel money for the final event of the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage season, the California Hot Rod Reunion on Oct. 25-27 at Bakersfield, CA. [09/24/19]
It was kind of good news/bad news times two for Scott Wasko at the JEGS SPORTSnationals at National Trail Raceway. The bad news was that he qualified 34th in the 32-car Top Sportsman field. The good news was that after two other drivers ran off of the end of the track and into sand during qualifying Wasco was in the field.
The other good news was that he drove his way through the competition to take the class win. The other bad news was that he went into the sand on the final run where his Pontiac GXP lost its nose. The track is notoriously short, one of the reasons why they no longer host an NHRA national event.
We’ll have complete results coming later. [09/24/19]
In addition, Maple Grove presents the “ATI Young Gun Award” award each year at the Dutch Classic to the youngest and highest finishing racer in Stock or Super Stock. Drivers must be between 16 and 25 to be eligible for the “ATI Young Gun Award.” The winning driver will receive a trophy made by S&W and a check for $250. [09/24/19]
Strange Pro Series II Rear Brake Kit
The Strange rear brake kit for the 1997-2013 Corvette and 2010-2015 Camaro, PN B1724WC2 features directional calipers and the new 2-piece rotor design. The Strange Engineering 2-piece rotors utilize a unique floating rotor design that allows for axial and radial growth as temperatures increase. The kit also allows for 15-inch wheels that do not fit with the factory brakes. When coupled with the matching front brake kit, the Strange brake system provides the most dependable brakes on the market. [09/24/19]
