The Southwest Nostalgia Racing Association made its annual stop in Wichita Falls, TX, for the Bee Godwin Memorial Nostalgia Drags on Sept. 21. Some classes saw the points total change, while a couple of the classes are pretty-well sewn up.
Chris Graves (shown) took over the NE1 points lead from Ricky Marshall, who dropped to third with Tommy Drozd in second place. Graves and Drozd met in the final with Graves running under the 4.60 index, giving 2017 NE1 champ Drozd the event win.
NE2: Dusty Rose, .010 RT, 5.126, 134.53 def. Jeff Cameron, .114 RT, 5.069, 132.43. Rose now has a 13-point lead over Cameron for the championship.
NE3: Bobby Bates, .061 RT, 5.583, 107.27 def. Bob Scoggins, .082 RT, 5.560, 120.35. Scoggins leads the points, just 6 ahead of Keith Darrow.
Kevin Grider was the No Electronics winner while Michael Rhea has a commanding 52-point lead for the championship. In Electronics Brad Chartier won the event. Billy Key and Art Howard are tied for first place.
Kent Morris was the Nostalgia Super Stock event winner, but Vic Corlettt is on his way to a repeat class championship.
The final event of the SHRA season will be Saturday, Oct. 4, at Extreme Raceway Park in Ferris, TX. [09/25/19]
Kalitta is the second winningest Top Fuel racer at the NHRA Midwest Nationals with three wins. He is tied with racing Gary Scelzi and the pair are just two wins behind Antron Brown. [09/25/19]
Lex Joon and his Strutmasters.com/JLM Lubricants Top Fuel Dragster team will run this weekend at their eleventh NHRA race of the season. Since they last raced at Maple Grove they have been able to make some changes to the vehicle.
“We've upgraded to a larger size lifter, this is part of the valve train which will allow the car to withstand the current power we are making,” Joon said. “With help from Todd Paton at Performance Data Systems, the dashboard is fixed and for the first time ever the lights are working! Lots of work and a big investment in parts and labor but we know it's all worth it.
“We will do what we have to do to make sure we make it into the top 10 in the near future, starting in 2020. For a small, independent team this may seem like a huge undertaking, but that doesn't scare us off. The team has been supercharged with the support coming from Chip Lofton/Strutmasters and Lance Larsen -- just over the top!”
Joon, nicknamed the “Flying Dutchman,” is originally from The Netherlands, but the FIA Top Fuel Champion moved to the U.S. in 2013 to pursue his dream of racing with the NHRA. [09/25/19]
The NMRA All-Ford World Finals and the Holley Intergalactic Ford Festival will be held Sept. 27-29 at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, KY. Drag racing is on the agenda, with Street Outlaws, a special Turbo Battle and several more shootouts.
Add a huge car show, drifting, auto-X, and the original monster truck, the Ford “Bigfoot” – and you’ve got the largest NMRA Ford motorsport event of the year. [09/25/19]
Tommy Mauney won at the Xtreme series’ last Rockingham appearance in May 2018.
The Carolina Xtreme Pro Mod Series will compete on Saturday, Sept. 28, as part of the Original Super Chevy Show at Rockingham Dragway.
Among the other Pro Mod competitors expected are Chris Rini, Jay Cox, Hall of Famer Charles Carpenter, and four-time Xtreme champion Dewayne Silance. [09/25/19]
“We are continuously looking at materials, processes and technologies to reduce waste and conserve resources in all aspects of our business,” said Kevin O’Dowd, SVP, Global Marketing. “Improved packaging sustainability is a core part of our effort to protect our environment. This initiative is very important to our company, our direct customers and the motorists who purchase our products.” [09/25/19]
