Pedregon goes ‘pink’ to honor sister

Cruz Pedregon's Dodge® Funny Car will have a new pink paint scheme to recognize the partnership his primary sponsor Snap-on has with The Pink Fund®, an organization dedicated to covering 90-day, non-medical, cost-of-living expenses for individuals undergoing breast cancer treatment.

Cruz is revealing for the first time that his sister, Dora Williams, had a lumpectomy two years ago followed by radiation and will be on medication for several years.

"My sister Dora was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago, and Molly MacDonald, The Pink Fund founder, was a great resource to her," Cruz says. "Thankfully, Dora owns her own business, has great insurance, and her husband and family to support her, so she didn't need the financial assistance many do from The Pink Fund, but Molly was an invaluable source for information Dora couldn't find anywhere else. It's an honor to host Molly here at the track and have The Pink Fund logo on the car as a 'thank you' for being so helpful to my sister and to hundreds of other families each year."

Ms. MacDonald will be at the track this weekend when the Snap-on Dodge paint scheme features The Pink Fund logo atop a background filled with a multitude of individual pink ribbons to honor the many people affected by breast cancer. Snap-on will once again dedicate a portion of pink themed promotional tools sales to The Pink Fund, bringing its total donation over the past five years to more than $400,000.

AHDRA back in business with new owner

The All Harley Drag Racing Association has been purchased by Pulse Marketing, the Pennsylvania-based motorsports promotion company run by veteran drag racer Bill Rowe Jr. (shown) and family.

The AHDRA’s last season was 2012, but Pulse will have the series up and running with six to eight races in 2020, with Sturgis, ND, likely the only race west of the Mississippi. There are five classes that already have sponsors, with more to come, Rowe said. They will be announcing the schedule shortly.

Line ready to ‘kick it’ at St. Louis

A win certainly is a confidence booster and may be just what Jason Line needs coming into St. Louis this weekend. He won the Pro Stock class at Reading, PA, and hopes to do the same at a track where he has finished runner-up three times.

"In St. Louis, I'm just going to do the same things that I did last week in Reading,” Line said. “I feel good about it, and I feel like I owe that place. It's the site of my only DNQ, and that's my biggest blemish in Pro Stock racing. I'd say that I'm over it, but that would be a lie. I still feel like I owe that place a good, swift kick. We're going to go there and try to get it done."

He leads the Pro Stock points heading into the second race of the Countdown.

Hight hoping to be able to celebrate St. Louis win this year

That’s Robert Hight’s Funny Car up against the guardrail last year.

Robert Hight is looking forward to being able to celebrate a win at this week’s AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals at World Wide Technology Raceway. The two-time world champion has won his title sponsor’s event in St. Louis twice including last year when he defeated Tim Wilkerson in the final but crossed the finish line and had a fiery explosion.

“When I was on the run, I knew something wasn’t quite right. But it was the finals, I didn’t want to lift. I even looked over to see if I could see Wilkerson in front of me. I didn’t. If I had seen him out in front, I probably would have lifted,” said Hight who raced past team owner John Force and veteran racer Tommy Johnson Jr. before reaching last year’s final round. “I remember getting out of the car and I knew something in my shoulder area was hurt but what hurt most was no one could tell me if I had won or not. That was brutal.”

"We didn’t get to celebrate, I had to go to the hospital, so there was no winner’s circle. I think there’s one photo when I came back to the pits and was standing around with my guys and that was our winner’s circle photo,” continued Hight. “We’re going to change that this year, we’ll be defending our win and looking to get a proper winner’s circle, the whole team together.”
