Daniel McClelland (near lane) earned his first Super Street championship with two wins in three finals over the eight-race season. McClelland clinched the series title with his win in the Snap-on Tools-sponsored race #7, where he defeated reigning NHRA Division 7 Super Street champion Greg Ventura in the final round.

John Ross and Daniel McClelland won their respective Southern California Pro Gas and Super Street championships, the first title for both drivers. The event was contested at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, CA, on Aug. 12-13.
Coming into the final weekend of the 2017 Pro Gas series, John Ross of Trabuco Canyon, Calif., was six round wins out of first place, and would need a great performance out of his ’63 Corvette roadster, and some help from front runners Dave Meziere and McClelland if he had hopes to win the title.
Ross (far lane) did his part in the Saturday race, defeating Paul Wiechmann in the final round of the Mountain View Performance-sponsored race.
On Sunday, Ross and Meziere were matched up in round one, with Ross taking the win as Meziere continued to battle problems with his Chevy Cavalier. McClelland, who kept his championship hopes alive with a semifinal finish on Saturday, lost in round one on Sunday, clinching the title for Ross.
Mike Lang won the K&N Filters/Lucas Oil Products-sponsored Pro Gas finals, defeating Mark Fenton in the final.
Ross’s fortunes didn’t stop with the championship; he also won the annual Pro Gas Shootout, defeating Steve Parsons in the final round.
