AGENT 1320
Corradi with the Matco team in 2018.
“We just have to be poised and confident in the process,” Brown said. “We all have to be in it together. There’s pressure for all of us and we all share it. If you take it and put it all on your own shoulders, that’s when you start messing up. That’s where experience pays off and that’s one of the biggest things with this team and our backgrounds.” [02/19/20]
Terry McMillen’s Amalie Oil Top Fuel dragster will be a bit shinier and (perhaps) a little more aerodynamic with help from their new official car care product supplier, Liquid Glow.
DRO Senior Editor Richard Kratz has a profile of this privateer racer competing against the mega teams at here. [02/19/20]
A note written on a Sunoco invoice was left in the old mayo jar on the Phlegm Building’s second-story penthouse porch this morning. Seems that the nostalgia Top Fuel and Funny Car teams that were invited to make runs at the Winternationals were told by NHRA that they had to purchase nitro at the Pomona trac. They only were allowed to make one pass but could not take the unused fuel off the premises and were told there would be no refund for the unused amount.
The Agent has a few questions. Why not allow the teams to take the fuel they bought? Will NHRA store the fuel until the teams return to the track? Can the teams sell the fuel to pro teams who could take the fuel? [02/19/20]
Ron Capps (left) with crew chief Rahn Tobler.
As has become a tradition on Nitro Reports, Blake Bowser, VP General Manager of Famoso Raceway, guests in studio with the Good Vibrations March Meet pre-race show. Bowser will be answering questions with Ron Capps, who’ll announce the racecar he’ll be driving at the March 5-8 event near Bakersfield, CA going after his first March Meet trophy.
Also on the show is Speedway Bikes promoter Kelly Inman, driver Kevin Von Burgess, CIFCA’s James Maher, and Kevin Stith announcing his Jr Dragster program. Join Donnie Couch and Darr Hawthorne LIVE on the Nitro Reports Facebook page or at NitroReports.com 6 p.m. (Pacific) Wednesday, Feb. 19, and always available in the archives. [02/19/20]
Alamo City MotorPlex, just outside of San Antonio, TX, kicked off its 2020 racing with a three-day Valentines weekend event run on the eighth mile.
This year’s season was briefly up in the air when last year’s track manager took leave and moved to north Texas. Elaine Hewitt stepped up to fill the role of track manager and keep racing alive. Hewitt, whose father raced at the track, is no stranger to ACMP. In the past she's raced ACMP and Alamo Dragway, plus served in various positions since 2008, under different owners/promoters. Her knowledge of the track, local racers and racing, and past experience will be a huge asset to the facility.
Consistency paid off for Jeremy Hefler (Kennedale) in taking home the win the Super Pro finals against Ty Casey (Van Vleck), a graduate from the Jr. Dragsters. Hefler, running both classes, was on his number all day long. Hefler, in his Chevy Nova, but gave up 5/1000th on the tree to Casey in his BBC-powered, 2018 EZ Chassis, as Casey ran him down he went too quick by only about 4/100th and broke out.
The name Zampese is no stranger to the ACMP Winners Circle, but today is Mike Zampese(San Antonio) grabbing the Pro honors over Lee Miller(Canyon Lake). M. Zampese in his Driskell Race Engines powered American Race Car Chassis got a slight edge over Miller in his 1986 S-10 Pick Up on the light. Zampese was able to edge farther ahead at the stripe for the victory.
It was pretty much a family affair in the Jr. Dragster class with all three Garceau kids (Von Ormy) making their way to the semi-finals. It was brother versus sister in the finals with Riley Garceau in his 2007 Terminator powered Motivational Chassis against his sister Carleigh Garceau in her 2004 Half Scale Chassis. Riley used a huge reaction time advantage to get the victory despite Carleigh running closer to her dial in. [02/19/20]
Among the things the NHRA is touting for the Gatornationals this year is a nod to the popularity of the Street Outlaws-type television programs. For the first time, Tom Bailey and Rod Tschiggfrie will participate in an NHRA Street Car Showdown, making several passes throughout the weekend.
“Fans won’t want to miss the fastest street car versus the quickest street car showdown,” says the NHRA PR for the March 12-15 event in Gainesville, FL. [02/19/20]
The owners of Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka, KS, and I-70 Motorsports Park in Odessa, MO, have added Travis Hilton to its existing management team. Hilton brings a life-long involvement within the motorsports field as an accomplished drag racer, office/track manager at Woodburn Dragstrip in Oregon, and most recently several years as the Services Coordinator for the NHRA Division 5 region.
He will be involved in the day to day operations of Heartland’s six motorsports tracks as the Track Manager, with a focus on taking the National Event hosting drag strip to its next level. He has also accepted the position of General Manager for the newly renovated I-70 Motorsport Park which includes a high bank 3/8-mile oval dirt track and the currently under construction quarter mile drag strip. [02/19/20]
“The [initial] report was not authorized by Edelbrock and should be disregarded,” the statement said. “Furthermore, Edelbrock, LLC is not affiliated with Nitrous Supply other than as a product vendor.” [02/19/20]
