‘Baby Gators’ is this weekend for Sportsman racer

This weekend’s NHRA Southeast Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, affectionately known as the “Baby Gators”, is one of the largest sportsman drag racing events each year as racers prepare for the legendary Gatornationals on March 12-15.

 

This weekend Gainesville Raceway will host the Top Alcohol Funny Car and Top Alcohol Dragster categories for their only regional appearance in the Southeast Division, along with class eliminations in Stock and Super Stock.   [03/6/20]

Jeg Jr. and Troy Jr. to compete at Doorslammer Nationals

Pro Stock driver Jeg Coughlin Jr. will be joined by his nephew, Troy Coughlin Jr. at this weekend’s World Doorslammer Nationals at Orlando, FL. Troy Jr. will be making his first start in the factory hot rod class.

 

"We are certainly poised for a very interesting weekend," Jeg Jr. said. "Racing with Troy and being here for his first Pro Stock start is a special moment in our family history. We're all expecting big things out of him and considering the success he's had in all the other classes he's raced, combined with the racecar Elite has prepared for him, he's someone that could really have a big race.”

 

The event, held at Orlando Speed World Dragway, will feature both Pro Stock and Pro Mod classes.  [03/06/20]

Off the Track: GM to invest $20B in electric and autonomous vehicles

General Motors on Wednesday said it plans to spend $20 billion on electric and autonomous vehicle programs in the next five years and expects its battery costs to fall below the level that analysts say would make EVs competitive with internal-combustion vehicles.

 

GM's proprietary Ultium batteries will cost less than $100 per kilowatt-hour and allow for a driving range of up to 400 miles on a full charge, GM said. That's about 50 percent more than the 259-mile range for the 2020 Chevrolet Bolt.

 

The GMC Hummer EV, expected to go into production in fall 2021, will be the first vehicle to use the new battery technology.

 

GM will design the electric motors in-house. The vehicle systems and propulsion systems are much less complex than traditional internal-combustion powertrain combinations, GM said. The automaker plans 19 different battery and drive-unit configurations to start, compared with 550 internal-combustion powertrain options available today.   [03/06/20]
