As we wind down to our final posting on March 9, we asked DRO Senior Photographer, Ron Lewis, to pick out some of his favorite photos over the years to run in a final retrospective slideshow. “Sorry if there are too many photos,” he says. “It's been a GREAT run!!!”
Indeed it has, Ron-bo, indeed it has! Thanks for the great photography and your friendship for all these years.
We will continue to post Ron’s photos on the DRO Facebook page from each NHRA event he attends this season. Click for Slideshow [03/02/20]
Top ET veteran T.G. Paschal (shown) of McLeansville, NC, and Jr. Dragster standout Cam Whisnant of Dallas, NC, took big steps toward grabbing their second VP Racing Fuels Carolina Coalition Series championships Sunday, March 1, when both won their specialties in the 2020 series opener at Rockingham Dragway.
Paschal got a free ride to Sunday’s winners’ circle when his brother Michael, another past winner at The Rock, was guilty of a foul start. He may have cleared his biggest hurdle in the semifinals when he forced T.J. Owens of Pikeville, KY, under his target number by .004 of a second.
Whisnant, who like Paschal won the Coalition championship in 2018, held off Tyler Chapman of Ervoree, SC, in the final round after winning a third-round duel with Saturday runner-up Shelby White of Cordesville, SC.
The other Top ET title went to Lumberton’s Paul Warwick, who held off Kevin Crawford of Jefferson, SC, in Saturday’s final round.
In the Footbrake category, two-time reigning Rockingham Dragway track champ Allen Furr of Richfield drove his venerable 1962 Chevy II to a big Sunday win after losing in Saturday’s fourth round to eventual winner Levi Boozer of Kannapolis.
Shelby White may have lost Saturday’s final round to her brother, Dylan, but she left The Rock with a time slip that few will duplicate in their racing careers. She was perfect in a first-round win over Rockingham regular Hayden Dial of Lumberton. That means she not only had a .000 reaction time, she also was dead-on her target at 7.900.
The Whites, Furr and many of the others who kicked off the Coalition Series are expected back at Rockingham this weekend for the annual Racers Appreciation Free Entry Bracket Shootout featuring competition in the same three categories.
Furr and Dylan White were among last year’s race winners along with David Lowe of Rowland, Ricky Bullock of Sanford and Rockingham track champions James and Connor Caulder of St. Pauls.
The Carolina Coalition Series presented by Hoosier Tires will conclude this summer with events at Farmington Dragway June (13-14), Mooresville Dragway (July 4-5) and Piedmont Dragway (Aug. 1-2). [03/02/20]
The team will race in Extreme Pro Stock at these PDRA events: April 2-4, Galot Motorsports Park; May 7-8, Virginia Motorsports Park; June 11-13, Summit Motorsports Park’ Aug. 20-22, Maple Grove Raceway; Sept. 10-12, Darlington Dragway; Oct. 22-25, VMP. [03/02/20]
