ATI joins Laughlin cars for Florida double-up

Alex Laughlin will be competing in the Caruso Family Racing Pro Mod Camaro at the Inaugural World Door Slammer Nationals March 6-8 at Orlando Speedworld Dragway with ATI Performance Products as a primary sponsor.

ATI will be a secondary sponsor of Laughlin’s Camaro Pro Stocker at the NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville, FL, the following week.

“When this race [Orlando] was announced, I just knew I had to find a way to double enter in Pro Stock and Pro Mod,” said the reigning U.S. Nationals Champion. “After racing both classes competitively last year, we couldn’t let this opportunity pass without attempting a double-up. The Caruso’s planned on being in Gainesville for the Gators, but had no plans of running the Orlando race as of yet, so we quickly came to an agreement where I would run the car.”

A Tour of the Race & Performance Expo

DRO’s own Chicago Jon takes in all the cars and exhibits at last weekend’s Race & Performance Expo in Schaumberg, IL. Take a tour of some of the drag cars at here.

Haney will begin season with NMCA event

After introducing "Black Mamba," his Jerry Bickel-built 2019 Pro Mod Camaro, to competition late last season, Keith Haney also hopes to establish a good baseline tune-up on his Pat Musi powerplant while going after his first NMCA race win. Returning this year are crew chief Brandon Switzer to call the shots for Keith Haney Racing, with Shane Goodnight, Dale Hancock and Cale Hancock making up the rest of his trackside crew, while longtime girlfriend Misty Hayes provides extra help to the team's marketing partners.

Nitrous Pro Mod racer Keith Haney revealed plans to open his 2020 racing season Mar. 5-8, with the 18th annual NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem event at South Florida's historic Bradenton Motorsports Park.

Haney, who owns and promotes Mid West Pro Mod Series, also wants to demonstrate how easy and seamless it is for Mid-West Series and NMCA racers to compete with either organization.

They don't have to go change anything to go from one series to the next,” Haney said. “And we worked real close together to make sure we weren't on top of each other's race dates this year, too. So, I encourage any Mid-West Series racers to go race with NMCA when they're not racing with us and I invite any of the NMCA regulars to come over and give our series a try. It's all about giving the racers options."

A tip of the Agent’s fedora to promoters from two different series trying to work together to provide more opportunities for their drivers to race.

Terri Weney Gdowik named S&W president

The S&W Performance Group announced that Terri (Weney) Gdowik will helm the family owned 61-year-old performance racing industry company as its new President. Terri’s appointment from Executive Vice President to President comes after her brother, Michael Weney, completed his successful 4-year term as S&W’s President. Their new EVP will be named at a later date.

“Terri has been a key part of the business for over 38 years. I’m confident in Terri’s leadership and experience, to lead us through this new decade and beyond,” stated S&W company founder, Walt Weney.

Flowmaster founder passes

Ray Flugger, founder of Flowmaster, Inc., passed away on February 8 at the age of 79. Flugger was a mostly self-taught engineer whose first successful muffler, the Hushpower, led to opening Flowmaster in 1983 in Santa Rosa, CA. Flugger sold the company to B&M Racing in 2011.

A celebration of his life in in the planning for April.

Off the Track: Geneva auto show canceled

In what may the first of many repercussions this year of the Coronavirus spread across the globe, the Geneva Auto Show has been canceled by the Swiss government.

Many countries have asked that their citizens self-quarantine in order to stop the spread of the disease and many events where large quantities of people gather have been curtailed. The Agent hopes the medical community can get a handle on this before we find ourselves staying away from drag racing events this season.

And just a reminder: wash your hands often.
