LSX classes to compete at NMCA All-American Nationals

The Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series will once again join the Honeywell Garrett NMCA All-American Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, the weekend of August 24-27. The NMCA All-American Nationals features the World’s Fastest Street Cars as well as one of the largest gatherings of LS-powered monsters in the U.S.

Heads-up LS classes include Wiseco BoostLine Connecting Rods Drag Radial, Chevrolet Performance Stock presented by Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center, and Holley EFI Real Street…all of which are wheels-up and hardcore. LME sponsors Street King, an index class for faster 8.0 to 11.0 second GM race cars.

The event also includes two classes for mild to wild street-type vehicles, Proform Rumble and Gear Vendors True Street. The Rumble class allows LS racers to pick their index, matching their street machine up against some of the fastest cars in the country.

Linda Vaughn recovering and will be at Detroit Dream Cruise

A note written on an old STP sticker was in the old mayo jar high atop the Phlegm Building’s second-story penthouse porch, saying “Miss STP”, Linda Vaughn, is feeling well enough to travel to Detroit this weekend to take part in the 23rd annual Woodward Dream Cruise on Saturday, Aug. 19.

The Agent wishes her a continued recovery from surgery.

SilverHook sets speed record from Key West to Cuba

SilverHook docks in Havana Harbor.

We told you last month about the attempt to set a speed record by the SilverHook, a 48-foot monohull Superboat Grand Prix race boat owned and captained by Nigel Hook.

We are happy to report that the boat set the record on Thursday, Aug. 17, setting the one-way speed record from Key West to Cuba. The team had an average speed of 79.23 mph for the 101-mile Florida Straights run. With an Elapsed Time of 1 hour, 18 minutes and 3 seconds SilverHook reached speeds of 127 mph in the 5-7 foot waves.

Hook is a 30-year veteran of international powerboat racing and has won three World Championships, set three World Speed Records and earned membership in the APBA Hall of Champions. He currently races the 77 Lucas Oil SilverHook 48GP in the Superboat International Unlimited class. His co-pilot and driver is fellow APBA inductee and powerboat veteran Jay Johnson.

Smith looking for continued progress at Brainerd

Since the low point of the season – not qualifying in Englishtown – Matt Smith has been impressive on his Victory Magnum, advancing to three final rounds and grabbing two No. 1 qualifiers in the past four races. Smith appears to be setting up for a spectacular finish to his 2017 season and plans on continuing his red-hot pace at this weekend’s Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway, where he is also a two-time winner.

“Our team is definitely going in the right direction and it’s a great feeling,” said Smith, who has jumped from 12th to fifth in the points standings. “After Englishtown, I was ready to sell everything. I was so frustrated because I know how hard we worked. I knew we had a good bike, but it was frustrating. We want back to the wind tunnel, fixed it and made a bunch of changes. The hard work has paid off and the whole team is excited. Now we’ve been to three finals and I think we’re on the right track of competing for a championship.”

IDBL announces World Series of Pro Mod Motorcycles at Rockingham

After a spectacular victory at the Bike Fest, Iowa-based Brunson Grothus is looking to lock up the first ever IDBL championship

The inaugural International Drag Bike League Pro Mod championship chase will come to an end with a major celebration at the IDBL World Finals.

Coming off a highly successful and competitive event at the WPGC Bike Fest at Maryland International Raceway, July 28-30, the IDBL Pro Mod championship chase is racing towards the crisp November air of Rockingham (N.C.) Dragway at the IDBL World Finals, Nov. 3-5, in what will be known as the World Series of Pro Mod Motorcycle.

"This is a perfect fit for Rockingham," longtime Rockingham Dragway owner and motorcycle admirer Steve Earwood said. "We have had an outstanding year and the track has been great. Not only have Jason Line, Greg Anderson, Shane and Tanner Gray, Vincent Nobile, Allen Johnson, Alex Laughlin, and Kenny Delco tested with us this season, we hold six NHRA national records and numerous AMRA records."

Earwood says his facility fully expects to see some three-second runs and has promised racers a fast, well-prepped drag strip.

Rockingham Dragway holds AMRA Top Fuel eighth-mile and quarter-mile records (4.099, 6.197 seconds), the Top Fuel Harley speed record at 231.60 mph, plus the Pro Fuel ET record at 7.181 seconds, the Pro Gas ET and speed record at 7.696 and 170.00 mph, the Pro Mod eighth and quarter-mile records at 5.227 and 8.308 and V-Mod records at 5.417 and 8.631.
