TNT Super Series names Toronto winners

David Surmatchewski won Saturday's TNT Super Series main event at Toronto Motorsports Park including the $1,000 purse and the Wally trophy, Andrew Stirk took home top honors in the REVS Full Throttle RACE of CHAMPIONS and Tom Coonly settled into top spot in the points chase with a win on Sunday.

Then in round two he was .013 on the tree and dead 4 to take out Alex Lepp.

 

An .010 advantage off the start got him past Steve McCarrick in round three. Then another great package .007 dead 5 had Tom Coonly on the trailer in the semi's.

 

The final was the only round he didn't have starting line advantage being .027 to JJ Jablonski's .011. But Surmatchewski got the W anyway running dead 5 and pushing Jablonski under to a 10.894.

 

The RACE of CHAMPIONS saw 15 drivers roll into the beams for round one. This invitation-only event recognizes those who have won a TNTSS event and puts them against the best of the best.

 

Four rounds later, Andrew Stirk from Orangeville, Ontario hoisted the winner's trophy after taking out the likes of Chris VanBaalen, Pete Maduri Jr., Tom Coonly, and then "Double-0" Joe Karosik in the money round.

 

Coonly from Blasdell, New York took Sunday's event win with a string of very close rounds all day long. In round one, he faced Gary Saska. With virtually identical lights, .011 to .012, Coonly took the strip by “trip zip eight” (.0008) running 10.916 to Saska's 10.915. That round set the tone for the day for Coonly.

 

He won round two over Tony Galluzzi on a holeshot 10.911 to 10.916. Then he overcame a .009 to his .016 light and ran closer at 10.912 for a .005 MOV win over Ryan Boniferro.

 

Tyler Halleen gave him a run in the semi's where he won by another .005 MOV in a double breakout.

 

That set him up to face Brad Redford in the final. Both away clean, Coonly had the advantage .002 to .016. At the big end, Coonly took the stripe and the win by .007, running dead 6 to Redford's too fast 10.899.  [08/04/17]

Purse increased for X275 class at Shakedown at the Summit

Enthusiasm for the Summit Racing Equipment Shakedown at the Summit presented by Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels is escalating as the event on Sept. 14-17 at Summit Motorsports Park draws near, and adding to it is the announcement that the purse for the Wiseco X275 category has been bumped up.

 

While it was $10,800, it's now $15,800, with $7,000 earmarked for the winner, $2,500 for the runner-up, $1,000 for semifinalists, $525 for quarterfinalists and $275 for eighth finalists.

 

"Wiseco X275 is an exciting class and one that needed our attention," said Bill Bader, Jr., Summit Motorsports Park president. "This demonstrates our commitment to X275 and the entire Shakedown property."

 

Other categories contested at the event include ProLine Pro Mod, Precision Turbo and Engine Outlaw 10.5, Speedwire Systems Radial vs. The World, Holbrook Racing Engines Top Sportsman, Callies Pro Street, Team Z Motorsports Ultra Street and Trick Flow Specialties Open Comp and Open Comp 8.5 Shootout.

 

The total purse is a whopping $155,500, including $66,600 for ProLine Pro Mod. Additionally, the G-Force Race Cars/Resolution Racing Services Money Shot is a special feature which will reward the driver of the quickest Pro Mod with $5,000.  [08/04/17]

Can Butner (kinda) sweep the Western Swing and keep the points lead?

Bo Butner raced a new Jerry Haas-built 2017 Chevrolet Camaro to back-to-back final rounds to start the Western Swing. With this weekend’s race at Seattle to go, can he make his third final-round in a row?

 

Butner is now No. 1 in Pro Stock points with KB Racing teammates Greg Anderson second and Jason Line fourth. Tanner Gray is in third place.

 

"There are a whole lot of small battles throughout the season, but there is one war,” Butner said. “My crew chief, Darrel Herron, and I have always said that – if you win rounds, the points will come.

 

“I think KB Racing has a good shot to be 1-2-3 when it's all said and done. We have our work cut out for us if we're going to do that, but the points are all going to be reset for the Countdown. We just have to keep doing what we're doing. We have good momentum, and we've had it pretty much all year. Lancaster cancels Friday racing; Saturday and Sunday programs still on

With the potential for severe weather forecast for Western New York later today, Lancaster National Dragway has decided to cancel its Franco's Pizza Friday Night IHRA Drag Racing program for August 4.

 

"All forecasts are calling for thunderstorms, severe at times, starting right about the time we'd be lining up to begin the racing events. Would rather play it safe than soggy and sorry," said Tim Packman, Track President.

 Jim Dunn Racing enters Oberto’s hometown with new Funny Car livery

The Western Swing has been fun for Jim Dunn Racing as they are closing in on a spot to compete in this year’s NHRA Countdown to the Championship. This week at Pacific Raceways near Seattle, driver Jim Campbell will try to repeat his recent semifinal round at Denver with a goal to advance and win the finals.

 

The team annually looks forward to the Seattle race, home of its primary sponsor Oberto, and has new bold colors for the beef jerky brand on their nitro Funny Car.

 

“It would mean the world for us to advance our standings and make NHRA’s Countdown to the Championship by winning this weekend’s race. North Tonawanda, New York's Pete Maduri Jr won the Joe's Transmission TNT Super Series BONUS Race Friday, July 28, at Lancaster Dragway. The 2010 TNTSS Champion bested the 33 cars that rolled into the beams for first round in a very tough qualified field with the top ten all better than 7.011.

 

The BONUS Race was a joint effort presented by both Steve's Electric and Jan-Cen Motorsports combining two previous rainouts into one 'give it all away' race. And while Maduri took home $1,000 for the win, lots of racers went home with extra cash and prizes.

 

In eliminations, Maduri used the tree to get past Alex Lepp in round one. Then Tyler Halleen had starting line advantage in round two but broke out by .006.

 

Round three saw Dave Gunn go red sending Maduri to a bye in round four and then into the semi's. There he made easy work of Chris VanBaalen.

In the money round, Maduri was paired with Pat Boniferro. At the green, Maduri had the advantage and carried it through to a 7.018 for the win over Boniferro's 7.003 effort.  [08/04/17]
